Little Dog Missing for 13 Months Miraculously Finds Her Family—Their Reunion is So Emotional, You’ll Cry
It’s a nightmare that every dog owner dreads: their pet going missing. Sadly, this nightmare became a reality for Jim Chow & his family after their beloved dog, Peach, vanished from their San Francisco home about 13 months ago. (Watch Video Below)
At first, they were hopeful that Peach would show up at their doorstep shortly after her disappearance. But despite scouring the neighborhood day after day, posting her details online, and stapling flyers everywhere, Peach still couldn’t be traced.
As weeks turned into months, the Chows found it harder to hold on to hope. Every search effort bore no fruit, and painfully, they settled for the possibility that Peach may have passed away.
@marinhumane REUNITED THANKS TO A MICROCHIP! 🎉 When sweet little Peach escaped their home in San Francisco more than 13 months ago, Jim Chow and his family were devastated. They looked everywhere for their sweet girl, checked San Francisco Animal Care and Control, and put up "Lost Dog" signs, but couldn't find her. After several months, they assumed she had passed away and even held a memorial service for their beloved Peach. 🙁 A few days ago, a San Rafael Police Officer spotted a dog who appeared in distress. The people with her claimed ownership, but, concerned about the dog's safety, the officer removed the dog from their care and handed her over to Marin Humane Animal Services officers, who brought her to the shelter, where it was discovered she had a microchip! The person who had found Peach in San Francisco didn't notify any shelters or take her to a veterinarian to be scanned for a chip. Lots of tears witnessing this heartfelt reunion! 😭❤️ It serves as a poignant reminder of two important lessons: 1. Make sure your pets are microchipped and their info is up to date, and 2. If you find an animal you believe is lost, please contact your local animal shelter (pro tip: you can also bring the pet to a veterinarian to be scanned for a chip). Marin Humane offers microchipping by appointment. It's just $25 for dogs and free for cats! #reunion #microchip #reunitedanditfeelssogood #microchipyourpets #homesweethome ♬ original sound – Marin Humane
Saying Goodbye…
The anguish of searching for Peach for several months without success left the Chow’s family with no choice but to accept that she may never come back home. And so, with heavy hearts, they held an intimate memorial for their cherished furry friend.
They were certain that Peach had died, and holding a memorial would allow them to say their final goodbyes once and for all. Unknown to them, sweet Peach was still very much alive despite disappearing for over a year.
When Fate Intervened

Peach had been taken in by strangers who, unfortunately, didn’t bother reporting her as a lost & found dog, let alone take her to the vet for a microchip scan. Worst of all, Peach was being neglected under their care.
Things took a miraculous turn a few days ago when a San Rafael Police Officer spotted Peach in a distressed state and confronted the individuals caring for her. Fearing for Peach’s safety, the officer brought her to Marine Humane Animal Services, where staff immediately scanned her for a microchip. To their surprise, Peach’s microchip came up with updated information about her family. The shelter then contacted the Chows to inform them of the good news so they could come and get their beloved dog.
For the Chows, the shelter’s call seemed surreal because they had already grieved sweet Peach and even honored her with a memorial. A recent TikTok video posted by the shelter captures Peach reuniting with her loved ones, and it’s nothing short of emotional.
A Miraculous Reunion

The video shows the moment Peach recognized her family from across the shelter’s hallway and ran toward them at top speed with uncontainable joy. Staff members watched in tears as Peach leaped into her family’s arms, her little tail wagging so vigorously into a blur. She couldn’t stop jumping and wiggling her tiny body in excitement, and it’s honestly the most soul-stirring clip to witness.
And her family? The happiness on their faces as they hugged and petted Peach says it all: they never imagined a day like this would come, not even in their wildest dreams.
There’s no doubt that this reunion is a miracle by itself, given how long Peach had been missing. But we can’t ignore that this was all made possible, not because of luck, but thanks to her microchip. Unlike a dog collar or a tag that can easily fall off or get detached by a stranger, a microchip is highly reliable since it’s permanent.
As tiny as it is, a microchip is a lifeline that can turn the anguish of dealing with a missing pet into a happy ending, as was the case for Peach’s family. And the best part is, getting your dog fitted with a microchip is a quick, low-cost process that’s even free in some facilities.
