Her Leg May Be Broken But Her Hope Isn’t – Meet Loving Dog Searching for Her Forever Home
On Monday, February 26th, an adorable little dog was found frightened and confused on the side of a busy road in Ensenada, Mexico. Los Adoptables rescue organization was called, and notified animal rescuer Henry Friedman of her condition. This is Nemo’s rescue story.
Rescuers Were Surprised by Nemo’s Demeanor When They Found Her
Most of the time when rescuers find a dog that needs help, the dog is standoffish and unsure of how to react to a loving hand. Many dogs act out with the only tool they have to protect themselves, their aggression.
Nemo seemed to react in the complete opposite manner, almost welcoming her rescuers. As they approached her with treats, she crawled towards them and rolled on to her back for a belly rub when they got to her. She was friendly, and it was clear that she craved human companionship. She was somebody’s dog that had been loved before and knew what love was. She must have been abandoned or maybe lost, and was happy to have been found.
One of her legs was visibly broken, and seemed to have started to heal at an awkward angle. Though she must have been in pain, her tail was wagging continuously. Rescuers said, “She’s happy and seems to really love life (and people)!”
Rescuers Learn More About Nemo’s Condition
Henry and his team spent the afternoon with Nemo getting her checked out at the vet. The vet determined that she was approximately 2 years old and weighed 15 pounds. On Henry’s Instagram post he also added, “And yes, she has an underbite” which everybody agreed made her even more adorable! She wasn’t starving or neglected, and was in good spirits, “She loves hanging out with us, which makes us think she once had a family.”
Unfortunately it was determined that she will most likely have to “lose that back leg”, as that injury is irreparable. While it’s sad to think that Nemo is going to have to lose her leg, it doesn’t mean that her new life will be any less happy. One of Henry’s Instagram commenters shared, “I have a 3 legged pup. She’s faster than most 4 legged dogs! Trust me Nemo, losing that leg won’t slow you down!” It’s inspiring news to hear!
Nemo’s Long Journey of Healing and Adoption Has Began
Henry’s focus now is to get Nemo the surgery that she needs on her leg so that she can begin healing and start on her journey to finding her forever home. If you would like to help Nemo get the medical care that she needs, you can join Finn to the Rescue, Henry’s community-based rescue campaign.

Henry shared that Nemo will be available for adoption “when she’s ready.” Nemo will eventually be available for adoption through The Animal Pad, a rescue organization in San Diego, California.
