Heartbroken Pup Returned to Shelter 3 Times Has the Saddest Eyes You’ll Ever See
Sitting inside one of the shelter kennels at the Humane Broward is Zion, a one-year-old Canaan dog breed with a wedge-shaped head and an athletic appearance. But what truly stands out is his dark, almond-shaped eyes filled with immense sadness and confusion over the adoption heartbreaks he’s faced within one year alone. (See video below)

Zion possesses all the ideal qualities of the perfect canine companion. Still, he’s seen the shelter’s doorstep more times than most dogs his age. Poor Zion can’t seem to catch a break — he’s found himself back at the shelter for the third time now, and consequently, his big heart has shattered into a million pieces.
The last three homes he’s been to misunderstood him; they all failed to realize that the depth of love Zion has to offer is as boundless as his energy. In a tear-jerking TikTok video, the Humane Broward shelter in Fort Lauderdale lets viewers in on their relentless pursuit of the ultimate gift for Zion — a forever home that will heal his wounded heart and restore his trust in humanity.
All His Previous Owners Misjudged Him

The seconds-long TikTok video posted by @humanebroward a day ago (and accompanied by a lengthy caption) paints a picture of the undeserving heartbreak that Zion is grappling to make sense of. For three different times, he’s seen every family he’s been with so far break the solemn promise that they made to him during adoption; “We’ll be together forever, buddy!”
You see, Zion is a Canaan, an ancient breed described as loyal, devoted, highly energetic, eager-to-please pets with a playful streak that pairs perfectly with active owners. Nothing makes a Canaan happier and fulfilled more than lots of physical activity and mental stimulation. If these two aren’t part of the equation for their daily routine, your Canaan will likely not be at their best behavior.
Plus, Canaans love to be around their family members and thus don’t do too well when left alone for an extended period. Sadly for Zion, none of his previous owners took the time to understand his needs, and instead, misjudged him for expressing these needs the only way he knew how.
Part of the video’s caption reads: “His first family gave him up because he became destructive and cried when he was alone. Another family left him outside 24 hours a day and then complained that he barked too much. Zion has been let down, and now, through no fault of his own, hoping for yet another chance to be the incredible dog that he is. ”

Zion Longs to be Adopted for Good
The shelter describes Zion as the sweetest love-bug with a fun-loving attitude and an irresistible urge to shower his favorite human with kisses at any chance he gets. He’s a sucker for car rides and thoroughly cherishes playtime with other dogs.

His ideal adopter? Nothing out of the ordinary; just someone with an active lifestyle, who’ll pick up all the pieces of his broken heart by giving him the loving, permanent home he deeply craves. If you’re out there ready to give Zion a fourth, lasting shot at happiness, the Humane Broward is more than eager to hear from you.
