Heartbreak as Sweet Dog Waits 2,000 Days Overlooked in the Shelter, Without a Single Application

At the Humane Society of York County, staff members and volunteers had a similar wish for the new year: that each of their dog residents lands a loving forever home soon.

Heartbreak as Sweet Dog Waits 2,000 Days Overlooked in the Shelter, Without a Single Application

While some of the dogs have already started the year on a good note by winning the interest of potential adopters, others haven’t been too lucky. Recently, the shelter posted a TikTok clip revealing seven incredible dogs who’ve been overlooked for months with no single adoption application, and our hearts ache for these furry beauties.

Could you give any of them a chance? It’s hard to say “I’d never adopt a shelter dog” when you come across these beautiful faces:

1. Hope

Meet 6-year-old Hope, a lover girl through and through! It’s roughly 2,020 days since this lovely Terrier mix arrived at the shelter, and it makes no sense why not a single soul has expressed interest in her.

I mean, Hope is stunning (you’ll be obsessed with her shiny, chocolate-brown coat), playful, does great on car rides, enjoys walks and hikes (hey there, active families), is a sucker for cuddling, and loves like there’s no tomorrow. She’d thrive best in an adult-only home where she’s the only pet. To adopt Hope, learn more here

2. Gatlin

Did someone say Gatty-girl? You’re right — that’s Gatlin’s nickname! 11-year-old Gatlin has been waiting for a home for 1,206 days. She’s an American Staffordshire Terrier & Cattle Dog mix with a to-die-for brindle coat.

Being a senior dog, Gatlin doesn’t have a crazy list of demands: all she wants is to spend quality time with her humans in a calm home. Oh, and by the way, her love for squeaky balls comes second to the love she has for those in her circle. To adopt Gatlin, learn more here

3. Myrrh

It’s roughly 761 days since Myrrh came to the shelter. A German Shepherd mix aged about five years old, Myrrh considers everyone he meets a friend. He’s smart, gentle, loves car rides, and is ever down for a fun adventure (blame it on his active genes).

Myrrh also gets along with other dogs and small children. To adopt Myrrh, learn more here

4. Denise

Meet Denise, a 3-year-old Terrier mix who’ll blind you with her flashy smile. This sweet-faced pup has been at the shelter for 635 days now. Found tied to a fencepost overnight, Denise has healed and grown into a fun-loving girl who loves making new human friends, adventures, and playtime sessions with her toys.

She’s not a huge fan of other dogs, so that means she’d be thrilled to be your only pet. To adopt Denise, learn more here

5. Shein

Approximately a year old, Shein arrived at the shelter about 506 days ago. This vibrant, mixed-breed pup desires to live out her youthful years in a warm home. Her idea of a time well spent is going on car rides, taking walks, hiking, and playing tug of war with her humans.

Plus, she picks up basic training pretty fast, provided there’s lots of treats involved. Shein promises to brighten your days with her young-pup energy!

6. Piglet

A certified love bug, 3-year-old Piglet will crawl her way into your heart with her big, goofy smile and striking pink nose.

Piglet has been at the shelter for about 330 days now, and all she craves is a home to call her own. Piglet is an active pup who loves anything to do with the outdoors. Her leash manners? Excellent! To adopt Piglet, learn more here

7. Milton

Then there’s Milton — or magnificent Milton, as he’s fondly called by staff and volunteers. Estimated to be around 9 years old, this senior Shepherd mix has already clocked 70 days in the shelter, and we hate that he’s still counting. Milton is a laid-back fella who walks great on leash, loves car rides, and enjoys having a good time in the yard with his tennis balls. To adopt Milton, learn more here
