Shelter Pup’s Overwhelming Joy When He Learns He’s Been Adopted

“Are you ready? Is this for you?” asks an enthusiastic cameraman as he approaches a kennel in a dog shelter carrying a purple leash. “You’ve been adopted, let’s go, sweetie!” Wagging her tail uncontrollably, the dog in the kennel—a black, mid-sized, Poodle mix—knows the man behind the camera is delivering good news and she’s out, on the leash, and rushing towards her new forever family in no time!

Shelter Pup’s Overwhelming Joy When He Learns He’s Been Adopted

Posted by MetDaan Animals on TikTok, this video shows the emotional moments just before shelter dogs leave the shelter to go to their forever homes—hopefully for good. Emotional for humans and animals alike, adoption day is usually the best part of working or volunteering in the animal shelter system.

Bella (a beautiful possible Newfoundland mix) is next to get her adoption day speech. “Bella, it’s your time sweetie!” the cameraman exclaims before leading her to her new human who is waiting just outside the door, anxious to give Bella a fresh start. A beautiful brindle mix bounds out of the shelter, already sniffing and excited to explore the world beyond the kennel.

Finally, Darla, a nervous English Bulldog, goes home with new humans and a new canine best friend. “They love you, sweetie, they loved you, they decided to adopt you, you got yourself a forever home! It’s gonna be scary at first, but they’ll take the best care of you,” the cameraman reassures Darla before taking her final walk out of her kennel.

A fresh start is just what these dogs—and countless other shelter animals—need for 2025!

Should You Adopt a Dog in 2025?

Shelter Pup’s Overwhelming Joy When He Learns He’s Been Adopted

If you’ve been considering getting a dog in 2025, take this as a sign that you should adopt a dog!

3.1 million dogs enter the shelter system in the US annually and of those, around 12.5% or 390,000 dogs are euthanized. By adopting a dog from the shelter instead of buying a puppy from a breeder (or unethical pet store, backyard breeder, or puppy mill) you can directly combat shelter overcrowding and give a dog a much-needed second chance. Shelter dogs come in all shapes, sizes, ages, breeds, and colors, so even if you have a specific type of dog in mind, you can find it at the shelter.
