Heartbreak as Shelter Dog Is Adopted and Returned in Just 2 Hours—Why Can’t This Husky Find a Home?
Lyla first arrived at the shelter in June, turned in by a Good Samaritan who had found her roaming without any identification. After weeks of trying to locate her owner with no success, she was made available for adoption.
In her time at the shelter, Lyla quickly earned a reputation for being a social butterfly with other dogs. Due to her high energy and typical Husky traits, she was classified as a Level 2 in the dog-walking program, meaning only experienced handlers could walk her. Even with this classification, Lyla showed great promise when she met other dogs.

Her ability to get along with other pets led her to participate in meet-and-greets and behavior testing with nearly 10 different dogs. All the dogs she helped test have since been adopted—except for Lyla herself.
Lyla Takes on a New Role: Dog Behavior Tester

Lyla may still be waiting for her forever home, but in the meantime, she has taken on a new job at the shelter. Thanks to her exceptional ability to get along with other dogs, Lyla is now one of the shelter’s go-to dogs for behavior testing.
“She’s been used to test how new dogs react in social situations,” explains Phil. “She’s great at gauging other dogs’ temperaments and showing us who’s ready for adoption.”
While Lyla is helping other dogs find their homes, her own search continues. Her social nature, combined with her energy, has made her an invaluable part of the shelter team, even if her own adoption is still pending.

Why Lyla Needs the Right Home
Although Lyla’s high energy might be a challenge for some, her playful personality is a perfect match for a family familiar with Husky traits. As an active breed, Huskies require plenty of exercise, mental stimulation, and time outdoors.
“She’s likely still here because she’s so active,” explains Phil. “A family that understands the demands of a high-energy dog like Lyla would be ideal. But her ability to get along with any dog is what really sets her apart.”

Staff and volunteers have all noted how affectionate and well-behaved Lyla is around people. She’s housebroken, well-mannered, and, most importantly, ready to settle into a home that can keep up with her enthusiasm for life.
The Perfect Match
Lyla’s time at the shelter has been filled with love from volunteers and staff, and she’s even found a new role helping other dogs get adopted. But she’s still waiting for the right family to take her home for good. As one of the shelter’s longest residents, her journey has been filled with highs and lows, but her social nature and eagerness to connect make her a standout dog.
Lyla may have been returned after just two hours, but with the right family, she could thrive. Could your home be the forever home Lyla has been waiting for?
