Giant Schnauzer’s Reaction to Seeing the Vet Tech Who Saved Her Life Months Before Is Pure Joy
She was barely clinging to life. When Valentina was first found, she was broken—physically and emotionally. No one was sure if she would make it. But what happened next is a testament to resilience, love, and the power of second chances.
A Grim Arrival
Valentina arrived at Animal Care Services in critical condition. Emaciated, weak, and battling infections, she needed urgent, intensive care. From the moment veterinary technician Suki laid eyes on her, it was clear this wasn’t going to be easy.

“I met her as soon as she was coming into the treatment area, and I didn’t think she was going to have a good outcome,” Suki said. “I was really concerned we were just going to put her through too much, only for her to have a bad ending. But she started healing so fast. I was shocked.”
The team at the boarding veterinary facility poured their hearts into saving her. Bloodwork, eye tests, constant medication, hand-feeding—everything Valentina needed, they provided. Suki served as her primary nurse for those first two weeks, staying by her side through every fragile step forward.
“She had so much energy, even then,” Suki recalled. “It was toned down because of her condition, but it was there. And she listened. By the third day, she recognized my whistle. That’s when I knew—I was getting attached. I even took a picture when she tilted her head for the first time. I told my coworker, ‘Well, I’m screwed. I’m in love with this dog.'”
A New Chapter at Flip’s Farm
Once Valentina was medically stable, she was transferred to Flip’s Farm—a rehabilitation space created by Rocky Kanaka to give rescued dogs the time and care they need to recover emotionally and behaviorally.

“When I got her to the farm, I was ready to do a lot of behavioral work,” Rocky said. “But there was no need. She picked things up so fast. It was like she’d been waiting her whole life to just be a dog.”
Though she had never experienced life in a home, Valentina adapted instantly. She was house-trained within days, eager to learn, and even more eager to love. But what she had in obedience, she matched tenfold in sheer energy.
“She was like a rocket ship,” Rocky said. “She ripped through our Quonset hut, tested the floors, tore at the walls. We gave her everything—frozen peanut butter toys, chew sticks, training sessions, long walks. But what she wanted most was her person.”
The Unshakeable Bond

As Valentina flourished physically, her emotional connection to people deepened—especially to Suki. From the first moment they met, their bond had been undeniable. But as dozens of adoption applications poured in, Suki worried she had missed her chance.
“I emailed Rocky right away. I knew people were calling about her, but I had to try,” she said. “I never let myself fully fall for her while she was at the clinic, because I didn’t think I’d get her. But I couldn’t let her go without trying.”
Rocky and his team reviewed every application carefully. They made calls. They conducted interviews. And when they got to Suki’s, they knew the answer.
“You’ve actually already met her,” Rocky told viewers. “She’s been with Valentina from the beginning. She never gave up on her.”
The Reunion

When Suki returned to Flip’s Farm, Valentina knew. Her tail wagged with the kind of joy you can’t fake.
“She remembered. She ran to her. That tail wag said everything,” Rocky said. “At that point, I was old news. She found her person.”
Rocky stood back as the two reunited, proud but bittersweet.
“Last night I couldn’t sleep,” he admitted. “I thought maybe I should keep Valentina. Maybe she’s the one. But this—this is what Flip’s Farm is about. Helping dogs on their journey. And it’s time for hers to continue.”
A Fresh Start as Ophelia

Suki renamed her Ophelia, a symbolic shedding of the past.
“She’s leaving behind trauma, pain, everything she’s survived. Ophelia is a new beginning,” she said.
And their healing would be mutual.
“I’ve been struggling with stress and autoimmune issues,” Suki shared. “My hair started falling out. I did the big chop. She has her own patches growing in. So now we’re on a little hair growth journey together.”
Ophelia will join Suki at work every day. Her coworkers are already fighting over who gets to take her on walks. One even promised a goodie bag. And Suki? She’s planning hiking trips, daily routines, and constant companionship.
“She’ll never feel abandoned again,” Suki said. “Not on my watch.”
The Goodbye That Wasn’t Sad

As Rocky watched Ophelia drive off with her new mom, he couldn’t help but smile.
“I’m so proud of you,” he whispered to the dog who had beaten the odds. “Thank you for being so brave. And just one last thing—you’re a good girl. You’re a good, good girl.”
They made one more stop before heading home: a drive-through pup cup. Ophelia’s first. She devoured it with the same zest she now approaches life with.
“This wouldn’t have been possible without all of you,” Rocky told his audience. “Your comments, your shares, your support—they helped give this dog a future. Thank you.”
Valentina, now Ophelia, is no longer a dog fighting to survive. She’s a dog learning to live. And this time, she’s doing it surrounded by love, purpose, and home.
Forever.
