Neglected Frenchies Dumped at Shelter Find Hope in the Hands of a Kind Groomer
With more dogs being heartlessly abandoned than ever before, the crisis in shelters is growing. Pet rescue advocate Rocky Kanaka recently encountered a heartbreaking example: two severely neglected French Bulldogs, Milo and Otis, left behind without a second thought. (watch video above)
“They were actually just dumped at the shelter, not brought in, not put in the night drop,” Kanaka explained. “Someone just dropped ’em at the front of the shelter and drove away when the shelter was closed.”
The state of the Frenchies was appalling. “We’re looking at dirt, rashes, yeast infections, you name it, they got it,” Kanaka said. The reason? They were likely used for breeding until they got too old, then cruelly discarded.

A Gentle Grooming Revives Their Spirits
The process of transformation for Milo and Otis began with a bath, an act simple yet profound. Mel, the shelter’s groomer, took charge of their rehabilitation. As she worked the medicated shampoo into their skin, Rocky pointed out, “Watch Mel closely and tell me if you notice the same thing that I see.” It wasn’t just about cleaning their fur; it was about healing their spirits.

Rocky admired Mel’s dual approach to physical and mental rehabilitation, highlighting her “love and kindness” as key to their recovery. That love goes almost as deep as that medicated shampoo,” Kanaka observed. “
The bulldogs, once apprehensive, blossomed under the groomer’s gentle care. “Look at that handsome man,” Kanaka marveled about Milo. “And here’s his brother Otis. These two – two peas in a pod, aren’t they?”
The Harsh Reality and A Glimmer of Hope

Rocky didn’t shy away from addressing the grim realities facing many shelter animals. “Milo and Otis were probably used for breeding and discarded when they were no longer useful,” he explained, a common fate for many neglected pets. Yet, even in the darkest stories, there is light. Rocky shared an uplifting update: Milo and Otis had been adopted. Their journey from abandonment to a loving home was a testament to the resilience of abused animals and the compassion of those who care for them
A Happy Ending Against All Odds
Kanaka had joyful news to share: “Milo and Otis have been adopted. Oh, it makes me so happy!”
From being callously dumped to receiving loving grooming and care, the transformation of these two pups captures the tragic realities of the dog abandonment crisis. But it also shows the life-changing impact rescues can have.
