Narwhal,Dog has tail growing out of its head

Video Transcript

Rocky:
This dog was born with a tail on his head. His name is Narwhal AKA unicorn dog.

Rochelle Steffen (Narwhal’s adopter):
I had a whole bunch of people tag me in this post about this little puppy that was found with a tail coming out of his head and everybody kind of knew that that was my kind of dog. So I said, yes!

Rocky:
The first thing that Rochelle did was take him to the vet to make sure his unique tale was not an issue for him.

Rochelle:
My first question was, does it wag? Quickly we found out that it does not wag. We all kind of wished it would’ve, but it’s actually better for him medically that it does not. He doesn’t have any idea that it’s not supposed to be there. Removing it might have caused more damage to his face and trying to pinch that skin together. We just decided to leave it there. And you know, it just it’s, it makes it more magical because we focus on the specialness of each, each dog that we rescue.

Rocky:
Narwhal became a viral sensation, which led to really high offers to buy him.

Rochelle:
We had an offer of $2 million to buy him. The other big offer was $7,000. And somebody literally would’ve gotten on their private jet that next day and come and picked up the dog for their daughter for Christmas. And these are words, both legit offers. Number one: you’re not gonna buy my dog. You’re gonna adopt my dog and I wanna know that you’re gonna care for them forever. And number 2: I can’t be bought. You’re not gonna buy me for something that’s just gonna be the flavor of the month.

Rocky:
But Narwhal safety had to come first because there were others that didn’t think he was that special.

Rochelle:
We had people showing up on the property wanting to take him. We had people saying that they wanted to do harm to him because they thought he was an abomination. And I’m sorry, he’s, he’s absolutely perfect. And I think that God made him exactly the way he was supposed to be. He went straight into my bed. He was with me a hundred percent of the time. And ironically, in that short amount of time, I fell madly in love with him because he’s the happiest dog in the world. I wasn’t looking for a puppy, but he kind of chose me. You know, he is just kind of he’s, he’s my squeeze.

Rocky:
Now Narwhal is a spokesperson for Rochelle’s Rescue, Mac’s Mission, to help advocate dogs with special needs and help them find a loving home as well.

Rochelle:
Every rescue out there when they adopt out a dog, it it’s, it’s an, it’s an adoption by faith of some sort. You have to trust that all the information that they’ve given you is, is true. And, and that they’re gonna do right by the dog that you’ve rehabbed. The fact that there’s so many special needs dogs out there that don’t get a chance. We wanna change that and he allows us to bring awareness to such a broad spectrum of people that it’s just, he’s just a magical, magical creature and he is absolutely perfect. He’s just like this little ball of happiness. And if you don’t laugh or smile around him, when he does some of his antics, you pretty much have no soul because he is just, he’s perfect.
