This Great Dane Thinks He’s Tiny and the Results Are Hilarious!

A hilarious TikTok video of a Great Dane has everyone in stitches, but it also conveys the sweetness of this gentle giant. The video, posted by TikTok user, @cypressanddewey, shows a Great Dane trying his best to awkwardly maneuver his huge body in between his pet parents on the couch for a cuddle session.

Due to his big size, the dog called Cypress tries to find many ways to sit on the couch and snuggle with his parents at the same time. While his humans are trying to relax and binge-watch the TV show, Survivor, the dog keeps on interrupting them to get what he wants: snuggles.

Gentle Giant Goes Viral For His Cuddle Routine

Cypress can be seen making space for himself beside his dog mom and hilariously putting his behind in front of her face. But the sweet dog doesn’t bother to care that he might obstruct her view of the TV, or cause his parents some pain while lounging his large body on top of them, or shoving his private parts on their faces.

No one can blame this Great Dane for unintentionally inconveniencing his humans because clearly he just wants some love from his parents.

The entertaining video has reached about 60k views on TikTok. In addition, many users have expressed their adoration for the video in the comments section. Jonathan Hansen writes, “Doggy cuddles are the best,” while another TikTok user, Richard Brent comments, “Wouldn’t have it any other way! 🥰”

Do Dogs Like To Cuddle?

This is a controversial topic. Some dog parents like in Cypress’ instance can say that their dog loves to cuddle with them on the couch. While there are other pet parents like a Reddit user, u/Gotmash, who claims their dog doesn’t like to cuddle and gets super awkward. So, the question you may have in mind is “Do dogs like to be cuddled?”

Every dog is an individual – they all have their preferences, and find comfort and security in different ways.

According to Best Behaviour Dog Training School in the UK, “every dog is an individual – they all have their preferences, and find comfort and security in different ways. Some dogs love nothing more than to be as close to us as possible and to be showered with cuddles, while others prefer to simply be in our presence while having their own space.”

So, the answer to the question, “Do dogs like to snuggle” is not straightforward. Essentially, you have to find what your dog is comfortable with and go along with that. You don’t want to force anything on them and be patient in understanding what they want.

Why Do Some Dogs Like To Cuddle?

As per Zac Pilossoph, a veterinarian, dogs often enjoy cuddling because they view their owners as pack members, prompting them to display affection and loyalty, which are natural instincts within canine social dynamics.

But there can be other answers to the question, “Why do dogs like to snuggle” besides showing love. According to a certified animal behaviorist, Kristyn Echterling-Savage, fear is another cause of your dog cuddling with you.

In her words “Dogs afraid of thunderstorms, fireworks, or other loud or scary environmental events might try to cuddle.” Kristyn warns that it is important to understand whether your dog is trying to cuddle due to love or fear, “because providing too much attention when dogs engage in a fear-related response can make the behavior worse long-term.”

Why Some Dogs Don’t Like To Cuddle

Now you may want to know why some dogs don’t like snuggling with their humans. For this, Kristyn, explains that dogs show affection in unique ways, influenced by factors such as breed, genetics, and early life experiences. Additionally, some dogs’ affection may be temperature-dependent, varying significantly when they’re too hot or cold.

Do Dogs Like To Cuddle When Sleeping?

Sandra C. Mitchell, a veterinarian, believes that there are multiple sleeping positions that a dog can take. One of those sleeping positions is “The Cuddle Bug,” which means that some dogs like to cuddle while sleeping. So, during bedtime, they can cuddle up with you or with another pet.

A dog owner describes their dog’s usual sleeping position on Reddit, saying, “My dog likes to be the little spoon when it’s time to sleep. He’ll have his head on a pillow, body under the blankets like a person, and fall asleep almost instantly when cuddled.”

The question arises, why do some dogs like to cuddle in bed? Dog experts at Purina clarify, “This sleeping position is a sign of affection and bonding. It suggests that your dog wants to get closer to a person or another dog and is comfortable around them.”

Do Dogs Like To Be Hugged And Kissed?

A Reddit user, loratliff, asks the question in the subreddit, r/dogs, about do dogs like to be hugged or kissed. Like cuddles with dogs, the answers about dog hugs are not simple as well. Some users, like ataraxia, say, “My dog loves hugs and kisses. He asks for them. The important factor here is that he loves them from people he knows well, people with whom he has bonded.”

Meanwhile, the post author states, “Personally, my dogs are on the opposite end of the spectrum: my Griffon would rather walk over hot pokers than be kissed/hugged (but he’ll lay next to me on the couch and cuddle close in bed on his terms), whereas my Pointer will accept kisses/hugs/head pats with a soft, low tail wag and the sweetest doe eyes.”

So, what do experts have to say about this? When it comes to hugs, “experts in dog behavior believe that, in general, dogs do not like being embraced. However, every dog has a unique personality. Some may dislike hugs more strongly than others, and some may actually adore them,” as per ASPCA Pet Health Insurance

On the topic of kisses, Reader’s Digest cites animal behavior specialist, Rachel Salant who argues, “Whether or not a dog tolerates or even enjoys kisses from a human depends on the individual dog, his or her upbringing, and what he or she has learned from the experiences with people being very close to the face.”

For many furry friends, kisses become a delight when paired with favorite activities like belly rubs and scratches behind the ears. This association helps them view kissing as a pleasant experience. That said, every dog is different, and some just aren’t fans of kissing. Just like people some dogs like to snuggle and some dogs don’t. Some dogs like to cuddle, and some dogs don’t.
