Desperate For Love, These Senior Shelter Dogs Are Begging For Someone To Give Them a Chance

True & Faithful Pet Rescue Mission is an animal sanctuary in Venice, Florida, dedicated to giving neglected senior dogs the care and attention they deserve. Their rescue currently has more than 40 senior canine residents, and they are asking a very important question: Why do people keep buying puppies from breeders when so many adoptable adult and senior dogs are desperate for homes? (Watch Video Below)

Busting Myths: Small Dogs Aren’t Available For Adoption

There’s a long-held misconception that you can only find big dogs available for adoption at shelters and pet rescues. In truth, there are thousands of small-breed dogs in shelters waiting for their forever homes. You don’t need to go to a breeder to find small breeds like Chihuahuas, Pomeranians, and Dachshunds

My own three Chihuahua mixes were all adopted from shelters and rescues. One of my Chihuahuas is under 6 pounds, and people will gladly pay thousands to breeders if they can guarantee a dog that size. Small dogs are widely available for adoption—you do not need to buy a puppy or go to a breeder to own one.

At True & Faithful Pet Rescue Mission, almost all of their resident senior dogs are small breeds!

Senior Dogs Come With History, But They’re Worth It!

In a recent TikTok video from True & Faithful Pet Rescue Mission, they shared brief backgrounds on some of their 40+ resident senior dogs.

  1. Cheeto, an adorable Chihuahua mix, was brought to True & Faithful after almost being euthanized at an overcrowded shelter.
  2. Leia, a nervous little Chihuahua, was found after being dumped on the streets of Miami.

Some of the senior dogs have been there for over a year, patiently waiting for someone to give them a chance.

Yes, these senior dogs come with a history, but does that make them any less deserving of love?

Senior dogs also come with upsides! Often, you don’t have to potty train a senior dog, or go through sleepless nights trying to get them to settle. Senior dogs already have fully formed personalities, and are more predictable and easier to care for than puppies. Senior dogs have a ton of love to give, and adopting one can enrich your life in ways you never imagined.

If you live near or in Venice, Florida, you could adopt a senior dog from True & Faithful Pet Rescue Mission! No matter where you live, if you want a dog, consider visiting your local shelter and asking about their senior residents.
