Badly Injured Puppy Denied Treatment By Neglectful Owner Makes Unbelievable Recovery
An 8-week-old Husky/Shepherd mix named Ivy recently faced severe trauma after being attacked by another dog. A month ago, she was brought to Rescue4All in critical condition, suffering from significant head and jaw injuries, including multiple punctures and lacerations.
According to Rescue4All, Ivy’s owners did not seek immediate medical care following the attack, leaving her in pain for several days. Her situation highlights the urgent need for responsible pet ownership and timely veterinary care.
Ivy’s suffering brought to light an upsetting reality: the existence of inhumane individuals among us who treat animals like trash. Pet Rescue Advocate Rocky Kanaka stated, “Though most see dogs as valued members of the family, this is, sadly, not always the case. There are many pet owners who are either unprepared, neglectful, or downright cruel.”
From Bad to Worse
Ivy’s condition continued to deteriorate as days went by without her receiving veterinary treatment and care. Her facial wound infections worsened, and they started oozing foul pus. Ivy had a bone protruding out of her fractured jaw, and the pain she was in was evidently unbearable. Sadly, her terrible state didn’t move her owners one bit.
Instead of rushing Ivy to the vet, her heartless owners surrendered her to a shelter so she could be euthanized. Luckily, Ivy encountered a kind-hearted doctor who tended to her, saving her from the jaws of death.
A Healing Journey Begins
This lovely doctor gave Ivy the urgent medical attention that she needed, from cleaning and stitching up her wounds to gently moving the protruding bone back to its rightful position, fitting her with a soft muzzle on her fractured jaw to hold it in place, and giving her the necessary medications.
Once Ivy stabilized, the doctor reached out to Rescue4all and requested that they take Ivy in, to which they agreed without hesitation. Today, sweet Ivy is in a safe, loving environment receiving all the love and attention she needs to make a full recovery.
@rescue4all This is Ivy 🩷 she is a lucky little girl who now will only know the goodness of humans but allow me to take you back to June 25th…. Imagine being an 8 week old puppy and getting attacked & severely injured by another dog…. Suffering major head and jaw trauma then be forced to suffer in excruciating pain for days…and your people can’t even remember just how many days they neglected you…maybe 3, maybe 4, probably 5 days….with a jaw that is so badly fracture your bone broke through and protruded out of your poor face. You had multiple punctures and lacerations that become severely infected oozing and the smell was horrendous. Your POS humans were supposed to keep you safe but instead neglect you and make you suffer in pain and infections getting worse every day without veterinary care only to have them bring you to shelter to be euthanized. 🤬 That is exactly what happened to this sweet little husky x shepherd mix baby girl on June 25th. Lucky for her she her path crossed with an amazing human, Dr Hillary who reached out and asked if R4A could take her. How could we say no. With our commitment she immediately got to work, sedated her and took X-rays. Her jaw has a displaced fracture on one side but her symphysis was intact and there was a non-displaced zygomatic fracture on the other side. She had a big super contaminated wound on her right cheek as well. She cleaned up her wounds, put the bone back where it was supposed to be, covered it with her cheek and gave her a ton of internal and external stitches. Ivy, like Honey our other broken jaw puppy) needs to be in a soft muzzle to help stabilize the jaw for a few weeks and hopefully should be ok. There is a chance she might need surgery on her jaw but only time will tell. So far this little girl is doing AMAZING!!! She is smart and so sweet! Her resilience is awe inspiring and she has no fear of the other dogs. She is learning all about crate training and she has a broken jaw BBF Honey to learn all the puppy things with. The level of irresponsibility, neglect, and apathy that Ivy suffered is infuriating & heartbreaking but because of Dr Hillary she will live her best life!!! Miraculous Progress
Currently, Ivy is out of the woods and doing much better. Even as her physical health continues to take a positive turn, the emotional wounds in her heart are also healing. Ivy is slowly putting the horrors of her past behind her and embracing this new chapter of life. Her resilience and optimism for a better future shine through whenever she interacts with staff and other dogs at the rescue, something the rescue finds quite inspiring.
Despite surviving a violent dog attack, Ivy, surprisingly, doesn’t exhibit any fear of dogs. She has made canine friends at the rescue and, in fact, has a best friend — a fellow puppy with a broken jaw — with whom she does all the puppy shenanigans together. She’s undergoing crate training and learning more good manners from the caring rescue staff.
Ivy’s transformation from a puppy who was steps away from the grave to a resilient dog getting stronger with every passing day serves as a solid reminder of the power of second chances. Her ordeal also affirms that, indeed, not every human being deserves a dog.
