After 365+ Days of Waiting, Shelter’s Longest Resident Finally Gets Her Happy Ending

At the Animal Care Centers of NYC, there’s been a thick cloud of happiness lingering in the air since the week started. Staff members and volunteers at the shelter at still trying to digest the beautiful reality that just unfolded for their longest resident — 7-year-old Bebe Bluff.

When Bebe Bluff was brought to the shelter back in February 2024 after her owner passed away, everyone was optimistic that it wouldn’t take long for her to land another home. After all, why would a dog who’s equal parts of brains and beauty be overlooked? Who wouldn’t want to own 80 pounds of sweetness wrapped in fur?

@nycacc We are so happy to start Monday off with this amazing news! after waiting over 365 days at Queens ACC, Bebe Bluff has finally found her home. Unfortunately, that’s exactly what happened. Weeks turned into months, and before they knew it, Bebe Bluff had clocked a little more than a year in their care, becoming the shelter’s longest resident.

The Toughest Wait Ever

For more than 365 days, Bebe Bluff enviously watched as other dogs that came after her went home with their forever families. No matter how much she wagged her tail or stuck her nose between the metal bars to greet visitors, all she got was a quick glance as though she had nothing to offer.

Over time, Bebe Bluff accepted a painful reality: that some dogs find forever homes faster without trying too hard, and others…the unlucky ones like her, had to wait longer than they deserved.

Despite everything, the shelter’s staff and volunteers never stopped rooting for her. With every passing day, they held on to the hope that Bebe Bluff’s person would soon walk into the shelter and take her home. They never tired of assuring Bebe Bluff that her turn was coming and that she was worthy of love.

And true to their words, Bebe Bluff’s turn finally came.

Bebe Bluff’s Happy Ending

Bebe Bluff found the forever home of her dreams a few days ago, all thanks to the person who saw her worth when everyone else walked past her. She no longer has to deal with lonely nights in a cold kennel, no longer has to spend every minute wondering why nobody wants her, and no longer has to constantly imagine what “home” feels like.

The kennel that held her silent wish is now empty, and staff at the shelter couldn’t be happier. It’s the best goodbye they’ve had to say.

Even though Bebe Bluff’s wait stretched longer than she hoped, we have to admit that the amazing forever family she landed was truly worth the wait.

“Bebe Bluff will from now on know nothing but love and happiness. She didn’t just find a home — she found the perfect one! Her happy ending is a timely reminder of the power of adoption,” pet rescue advocate Rocky Kanaka says.
