Murdock’s world has always been dark, but the shelter has made it even scarier. This three-year-old blind shepherd was found as a stray and brought to Maricopa County Animal Shelter in Mesa, AZ. With over 200 dogs, the shelter is an overwhelming place for any pup—but for a dog who can’t see, it’s a nightmare.

Murdock has already had two unqualified owners in his short life, and now, he’s struggling to navigate the noisy, chaotic shelter environment. He bumps into walls, flinches at loud noises, and wears a look of constant confusion. But even through his fear, Murdock is proving he’s a sweet and smart boy who just needs someone willing to guide him.
One dedicated volunteer took him on a day foster, and outside the shelter, he was a completely different dog. He rode in the car beautifully, hiked with confidence, and soaked in the fresh air like it was the first time he could truly breathe. But when he had to return, the stress and fear hit him all over again. Seeing him shut down has been heartbreaking for the volunteers who love him.

Murdock needs a foster or adopter with experience—or at least patience—with blind dogs. He deserves a safe, stable home where he can learn to trust his surroundings and thrive. Right now, he’s eligible for foster or adoption, and time is of the essence.
