At just one year old, Dobby is a compact bundle of love wrapped in a 41-pound Shar Pei package. Though he’s still working on gaining a little weight, Dobby’s foster parents say his happiness is already in full bloom. With his playful spirit and big heart, this pup is ready to find his forever family.

A Personality as Big as His Wrinkles

Dobby isn’t just about looks—his personality shines even brighter. He’s a certified people-lover and gets along well with other dogs. Whether it’s a cuddle session on the couch or a fun outing, Dobby is always ready for an adventure by your side.

When it’s time to relax, Dobby transforms into a professional snuggler. He’s happiest when he’s close to his humans, whether curled up in bed or on his own comfy spot in the same room. Left alone in another room, he may bark a bit at first but usually settles down within 10 minutes.

A Few Quirks to Keep in Mind

Like many Shar Peis, Dobby has a few sensitivities. His skin and stomach require some extra care, including a special diet to keep him feeling his best. But don’t worry—his needs are manageable, and he’s thriving under his current routine.

Dobby is house-trained and perfectly behaved when left alone to roam freely. He loves gazing out the window while you’re away, keeping an eye on the world outside.

A Work in Progress

While Dobby is an all-star snuggler, he’s still refining his leash manners. He can be a bit enthusiastic when meeting new dog friends, especially larger ones, but a front-hook harness helps. With a little patience and training, Dobby is eager to learn new commands—he’s already mastered “sit.”

He’s great with cats, enjoys chewing on hard bones, and is starting to warm up to softer toys. His sensitive tummy means treats are limited, but his love for affection more than makes up for it.

What Dobby Needs

Dobby doesn’t require a fenced yard but does need to stay on a leash when outside for potty breaks and exercise. He’s still learning not to sneak through fences, so a watchful eye is key.

Whether you’re a single-pet household or have other furry friends, Dobby would thrive in a home where he gets plenty of love and attention.

Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal’s bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home.
