This sweet girl came into the rescue when Castaways was asked by law enforcement to help with an animal hoarding and neglect case. Maya had been locked in a crate, forced to live in her own feces and urine, and lacked access to basic necessities including water. When rescued, she was filthy and frightened and yet, despite all she endured, remains the sweetest, most playful girl. She is great with other dogs and curious with cats but respectful of their space.

Maya loves running in the yard with her furry foster friends, playing chase and barking at squirrels. Her favorite game is tug of war- she would play all day! Because of all she has been through it takes her a little time to warm up to and trust new people but once she gets to know you she will love you forever. She is great with kids (we would recommend older children since she can be mouthy when excited) and does well with both dogs and cats.

*Maya is looking for a home with a fenced in yard and a dog sibling (or two!). Due to her past, Maya is not yet leash trained (her foster is currently working to help her build confidence on a leash) so a fenced in yard is required of all applicants.
