Abandoned While Pregnant, Dog Has Waited 7 Years at a Shelter. Why Won’t Anyone Adopt Betty Boo?
It’s rare to find a dog who still hasn’t lost their spark even after spending years at the shelter. Among these rare furry souls is Betty Boo, a 9-year-old mixed breed with an unforgettable smile like no other. (Watch Video Below)
Sweet Betty Boo is currently a resident at the Patty Baker Humane Society Naples (PBHSN), and it breaks our hearts to say that she arrived here back in 2018. Yes, Betty Boo’s closest companion for the past 7 years has been her kennel.
@pbhsnaples Meet Betty Boo — one of our most special long-timers at Patty Baker Humane Society Naples. 💕 She first arrived in 2018, abandoned and pregnant, unsure of the world around her. Over the years, she’s blossomed into a sweet, loyal girl with a big heart and an even bigger personality. Thanks to the love and patience of our team, Betty Boo has learned to trust again — and now, more than anything, she’s ready for her forever home. After a brief trip to the east coast in search of her perfect match, Betty realized she's truly a west coast girl at heart, and now she’s back in Naples, still full of hope. At 9 years old, Betty has spent far too much of her life in and out of shelters — but she hasn't lost her spark. She loves splashing in kiddie pools, playing with toys, and melting into belly rubs from the people she trusts. Betty Boo just needs a little time to warm up to new friends, but once you're in her circle, you’re in for life. She’d thrive as the only pet in a calm, loving home where she can finally relax and be herself. We know her perfect person is out there — someone who will see past the years and recognize the incredible, loyal companion waiting to shine. 📍Betty Boo is currently at our Oaks facility and can be met by appointment. 📧 To schedule a meet-and-greet or have any questions, email [email protected] ❤️ Her adoption fee is generously sponsored by Bobby Marks. Please share—her family is out there, and your post might be the one that helps her find them. #animalshelter #dog #longtermresident #rescuedog #shelterdog #adoptme #dogvideos #reels #pittiesoftiktok #pitbull #pitties #pittielove #helpme #dog #dogsoftiktok #share #foryou #florida #doglover #mutt #dogrescue #adoptme #fyp ♬ original sound – pbhsnaples
This gem of a dog has spent seven long years waiting for a forever home that never seems to come. Betty Boo has witnessed the happy ending of countless dogs, year in, year out. She has watched new arrivals find homes with so much ease. She’s repeatedly seen visitors choose dogs who’ve only had to wait a few weeks for a home.
And when we try to guess why exactly Betty Boo has been overlooked for years, nothing comes to mind. I mean, what flaw can a dog who everyone at the shelter considers beautiful inside out have?
Rising Above a Rough Past

Betty Boo may look like she radiates joy for a living, but her past is nowhere close to joyful. She was found abandoned while pregnant, and at the time, her optimism toward life was non-existent. When Betty Boo first came to PBHSN, her shyness stood out. She preferred to keep to herself, unsure of her new surroundings and whether she could trust the many new faces around her. Thankfully, the shelter staff were more than patient with her; they gave her all the time she needed to come out of her shell.
Fast forward to today, Betty Boo’s shyness has melted away. She’s more confident, loves too hard, and gives her all to the people she trusts.
Betty Boo may not be the kind of dog who’ll jump into your arms the first time you meet her. But this isn’t to say that she struggles with trust issues — she’s simply big on knowing someone first before giving out her entire heart (Isn’t that how most of us are, though?). What we can guarantee you is the moment Betty Boo experiences a sense of safety around you, she’ll make you know that your best thing that’s ever happened to her.
Please Give Betty Boo a Chance — She Deserves It

It’s admirable that Betty Boo still chooses hope and joy everyday, even though she’s been passed over for too long. Betty Boo can make an incredible companion, and honestly, it’s hurting to see all that awesomeness within her wasting away in a kennel.
Her other top hobbies besides playing with toys? Going wild in the kiddies’ pool and showing off her favorite running style (bunny hops).
Betty Boo would do well in a home with no children or other pets, and in her defense, this is the only way she’ll get to be the center of your world. We beg you, be the reason Betty Boo exits the shelter records for good. To adopt Betty Boo, learn more here.
