What Happened at the Dog Park Left This Pup Fighting to Save His Vision.

A routine trip to the dog park turned into a medical emergency when a playful pup suddenly developed an eye injury. What seemed like a harmless day of fun took a serious turn after the dog abruptly stopped running and couldn’t open one of his eyes, leading to an urgent visit to the vet.

At the emergency clinic, veterinarians discovered a surprising culprit: a long grass seed had worked its way behind the dog’s eye, causing a painful ulcer that threatened his vision. (watch the video below).

As narrated on his TikTok account @mrnatesvlogs, Nate’s dog was running in the park before he stopped abruptly. Moments later, the owner noticed his beloved pup couldn’t open one of his eyes. It didn’t take long before he developed an ulcer in the affected eye, prompting Nate to rush him to an emergency vet.

“We tried everything to find out what was in it but decided to go to the emergency vet. After local anesthesia in his eye and pain relief, they put dye to release what we didn’t imagine….a long grass seed had gone right behind his eye. This caused him to have an ulcer in his eye that can blind him,” Nate shared. “This has never happened before.”

Thankfully, vets were able to retrieve the whole grass seed, saving Nate’s dog from any further suffering.

Hundreds of other dog owners took to the comments section to share their experiences with the grass seeds nightmare.

“That is how my pup lost his eye and became a 6-month-old pirate,” one dog owner wrote.

“Working at a veterinary clinic, fox tails are very common. [It’s] best to avoid areas that have them because not only can they affect the eye but also other organs,” another added.

“My dog had surgery when one went in her eye, then had another go in [through] her private parts. Surgery for her twice,” a third person revealed.

As harmless as they look, grass seeds cause intense pain and discomfort to the affected dog. These seeds have sharp ends, making it easier for them to pierce through the skin and remain burrowed underneath. What’s even worse is that once inside your dog’s body, grass seeds can travel to other organs and cause serious health complications.

For this reason, it’s important to avoid letting your dog walk or run through long dry grass. Plus, it helps to regularly inspect their paws, ears, eyes, and body after spending time in areas with long grass. Want to learn more about grass seeds in dogs?
