A Bullet Couldn’t Break His Spirit: How This Dog Found Joy After Tragedy

Fabius, a young street dog in Thailand, was a familiar face to Niall Harbison and his team from the Happy Doggo animal charity. During their regular rounds to feed and care for stray dogs around town, Fabius was usually there waiting for some food. But when he suddenly disappeared, the team grew worried, fearing the worst in a country where street dogs face daily dangers. (Watch Video Below)

Days later, Fabius returned — but his condition shocked his rescuers. He was dragging his hind legs, and the team initially suspected he had been hit by a car, a common threat for street dogs in the area. However, an X-ray revealed a more horrifying truth: a bullet was lodged in his back.

@happydoggoniall Fabius was a young dog who we used to feed last year when he suddenly went missing for a few days. We feared the worst until he came dragging himself out across the road. We initially presented he’d been hit by a car which is incredibly common for street dogs. When we took him for an x ray we were stunned to see a bullet lodged in his back. Luckily the wonderful Sybille jumped in and said she would treat him. An amazing undertaking given he was so young and his injuries so severe. Sybille has had lots of lucky getting dogs walking again but unfortunately the bullet had hit the wrong spot and Fabius is now disabled for life. If you think that was going to put a dampener on his life you could not have been more wrong. He spends his day being loved, running on the beach, eating bones, playing with toys and hanging out with Sybille’s other disabled dogs. He is just as happy as any dog we’ve ever seen. Fabius says he’s not angry about the person who shot him because he believes in karma and he feels like the luckiest little boy with all his new friends and loving humans. Well done little Fabius and especially Sybille for showing us all the good there is in this world. #dog #rescuedog #dogsoftiktok ♬ ALL MY LOVE – Coldplay

Fabius Couldn’t Walk

Sybille, a member of Happy Doggo, was incredibly sad to see a young dog with such a sad fate. So, she decided to take him under her wing as she has a history of helping dogs walk again.

However, Fabius had no such luck. The bullet had hit the wrong spot in the poor dog’s body, leaving him disabled for all his life.

This didn’t mean that Fabius would just give up. After spending a year under the charity’s care and lots of physical therapy Fabius blossomed. His spirits were still high and he still wanted to enjoy every moment of his life.

A New Doggy Wheelchair Changed Everything

Fabius spends his days joyfully running on the beach with the help of his new doggy wheelchair. When he’s not enjoying the sand and surf, he can be found chewing on bones, playing with his favorite toys, or bonding with Sybille’s other disabled dogs.

“Fabius is a testament to the incredible resilience and spirit of dogs,” said Rocky Kanaka, pet rescue advocate on seeing Fabius’ brilliant transformation. “Despite everything he’s been through, he’s found joy in life again. His story is a powerful reminder that every dog, no matter their circumstances, deserves love, care, and a second chance.”

After the charity shared his story on social media, Fabius gained a lot of popularity. His Instagram post received over 44k likes and a plethora of comments. A user, Liz, wrote, “Fabius hit the jackpot finding Sybille.” Meanwhile, Erin Shepardson added, “Turning ashes into gold 🐾✨ Such a beautiful story of resilience and love is always the answer❤️”
