Tiny Puppy Heartlessly Dumped In Sandbag Thought His Life Was Over, Then This Happened
What began as a routine day for the Soi Dog Foundation rescue team quickly turned unforgettable. They received a distressing call about a weeks-old puppy who had been tossed into a sandbag and left abandoned by the roadside. The terrified puppy, now named Butterboy, wasn’t going to make it, and without the team’s rapid response, his story could have ended tragically.
In addition to suffering from starvation and exposure to the elements, Butterboy’s vision was failing due to glaucoma and corneal ulcers. The rescue team swiftly transported him to their veterinary clinic for emergency care, marking the start of his second chance at life.
The Difficult Decision
Soi Dog Foundation is Southeast Asia’s largest animal rescue organization headquartered in Thailand. Upon arrival at the vet, Butterboy’s condition was thoroughly evaluated. Unfortunately, the veterinarian team found that his eyes were damaged beyond repair, which only meant one thing: Butterboy had to have both eyes removed through surgery.
It was a painful decision but a necessary one since his overall quality of life was at stake. After surgery, Butterboy remained under the rescue’s care, where he continued to show signs of physical and emotional recovery with every passing day.
Despite the horrific abandonment and losing his vision, Butterboy’s bubbly personality stood out to his rescuers. And as his optimism towards life began to bloom, so did his desire for a stable forever home that would care for and adore him to bits, his blindness notwithstanding.

A Much-Deserved Happy Ending
After waiting patiently for a permanent home, Butterboy — now all grown — found himself on the welcoming doorstep of a family all the way in the UK this past September. According to the rescue, this UK-based family got deeply drawn to Butterboy when they learned of his painful backstory; they knew he deserved the world, and they vowed to give him exactly that.
Today, Butterboy — described as a playful, loving dog who doesn’t let his visual disability stop him from living life to the fullest — knows what it feels like to be a spoiled dog. The memories of him being tossed in a sandbag no longer haunt him as his new family showers him with love and affection, something he probably never experienced in his early life. Butterboy’s idea of a good time in his new home includes snoozing on the couch, playing with tennis balls, going on car rides, visiting the beach, and bonding with his cat sibling.
Truly, this resilient pup is proof that any abandoned dog out there is a worthy candidate for second chances.
