This 130-Pound Dog Was Freezing in the Snow; Saving Her Was Not Easy But Rescuers Refused to Give Up
When a Detroit-based rescue saw a heartbreaking photo of a large dog sitting alone in the snow, cold and terrified, they knew they had to act. Workers at Glasco Corporation, where the dog had been found, had been trying to rescue her since early morning—possibly after she had spent the entire night in the freezing cold. Unable to catch her, they reached out to Rebel Dogs Detroit for help. While waiting for their arrival, the kind workers did what they could to help her—threw blankets over her to protect her from hypothermia. But even when the rescue team arrived, they quickly realized saving the 130-pound dog wouldn’t be easy—her fear made her nearly impossible to catch.
A Challenging Rescue Operation
At first, the organization’s workers struggled to secure the giant dog, and even after the rescue team arrived, the operation remained challenging. Paralyzed by fear, she growled and thrashed, desperate to escape her rescuers. Her sheer size only added to the difficulty of catching her.

After countless efforts to earn her trust, they managed to secure her with a catchpole. However, getting her into the car proved just as difficult—she was terrified and resistant even though her tail was wagging. Finally, after a relentless struggle, their patience and persistence paid off—they secured her and transported her to safety, marking the end of a challenging rescue mission.
From Freezing Cold To Safety
Once forced to endure freezing temperatures, the dog is now warm and safe—but still paralyzed by fear. Despite this, the rescue remains hopeful that with time, she will learn to trust again. After all, she’s just a giant baby who longs to feel secure.

In a social media post, the rescue shared that while the dog appears to be in stable health, she will undergo further assessments. If she is a lost pet, her owner can come forward with proof of ownership.
However, if no one claims her, she will be given the name Gaana and will need a loving foster home. You can help Gaana receive the care and warmth she deserves by submitting a foster application to the rescue.

Pet Rescue Advocate Rocky Kanaka remarks, “This rescue is a powerful reminder of the resilience of dogs and the kindness of people who refuse to look away. Thanks to the relentless efforts of Rebel Dogs Detroit and the workers who refused to give up, this gentle giant now has a chance at the warm, loving life she deserves.”
