The Humane Society of Broward County in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, shared this TikTok, showing the huge variety of dogs waiting at their shelter. While lots of people say they “can’t” adopt a dog because they’re looking for something specific, this video shows that there are so many options at the shelter that there is almost certainly a rescue dog for everyone. And how could you say no to those faces? Each of these sweet dogs is just looking for a chance to show someone how much love they can give.
How To Make a Difference For Shelter Dogs Everywhere
More than 3 million dogs enter the US shelter system annually, and of those, more than 300,000 are euthanized, but they don’t have to be. According to Best Friends Animal Society, shelter animal euthanasia could be almost entirely eradicated if just 6% more people chose to adopt instead of buying dogs from breeders.

Despite the belief that you will get exactly what you want in a dog when you buy one from a breeder, there are no guarantees. Dogs purchased from breeders can be unpredictable, may look different from your expectations, or may behave very differently from other dogs of its breed. Unfortunately, many dogs in shelters were once purchased from breeders and either didn’t live up to expectations or were simply too much work for their owners.
While adopting one dog might not seem like enough to counteract the nationwide pet overpopulation crisis, it makes a bigger difference than you think. When you consider that you are one of millions choosing to adopt, you realize you are part of a bigger movement. By adopting a dog, you not only contribute to the lifesaving efforts of animal rescue but can also encourage others to adopt pets themselves and become an advocate for choosing to adopt rather than buy.
If you’ve been considering adding a furry companion to your home, choose to adopt a dog rather than buying one from a breeder and become part of the solution.
