Terrified Mama Dog & Four Puppies Living in Drainage Ditch Experience Kindness for the First Time
A few weeks ago, what started as an ordinary day for Kiersten Lynn — who runs a non-profit rescue in Houston, Texas — turned into an unforgettable one when she received reports of a mama dog living inside a drainage ditch with her puppies. As they approached the location, Kiersten and her team were greeted with a heartbreaking sight: a distressed mama dog roaming around all alone, possibly scavenging for food (watch the video below).
Unfortunately, she was terrified of her rescuers, barking incessantly each time they tried to get close to her. From her reaction, it was obvious that she was unsure of the rescue team’s intentions. But even though mama dog was hesitant to lower her guard and accept the help she so desperately needed, giving up wasn’t an option for Kiersten and her team. They called for assistance from another rescue equipped to catch frightened dogs and then proceeded to find the puppies.
A Delicate Rescue
Trapped inside the suffocating confines of a draining ditch were the four puppies, a scene that stirred a profound sense of pity in the hearts of Kiersten and her team. It was 100 degrees outside, and without proper air circulation or drinking water inside the drainage ditch, these vulnerable puppies were at risk of health complications.
Gently but swiftly, one of the rescuers navigated her way into the drainage pipe and pulled the puppies out one after the other, marking the end of their miserable existence.

Starting Afresh
Luckily, Kiersten and her team were able to find a foster home for the pups. Under the watchful gaze of their foster, these fur babies received the nutrition, care, and peaceful sleep that their bodies craved. Thankfully, it didn’t take long before they found loving forever families. They’re now enjoying the warmth, security, and love of a real home, a stark contrast to their rough beginnings.
As for mama dog, Kiersten revealed in a separate video that she’s still recovering under the care of the rescue that took her in. The rescue is keen on ensuring she has a clean bill of health before placing her on adoption. It’s a joy to imagine the bright future awaiting this resilient mama dog who bravely nurtured and protected her puppies amidst her dangerous living situation. Though it wasn’t an easy rescue, Kiersten and her team don’t doubt that it was certainly worth it.
