Tears for Two Pitbulls Dumped in the Desert, Now the Last to Be Chosen at the Shelter

Back in October 2024, Peter and Jan were found abandoned in the Mojave desert, starved, terrified, and utterly hopeless. At the time, these two gorgeous Pitbulls were barely six months old. But amid their brokenness and suffering, Peter and Jan found comfort in each other until help miraculously arrived.

@marleysmuttsdogrescue They’ve come a long way from the two dogs abandoned in the desert. Scared, alone, left for dead……they are now changing lives in Pawsitive Change including their own. Jan and Peter are who 2nd chances were made for. They are getting the freedom 2nd chances bring and this #freedomfriday we’d like to give them the ultimate gift of freedom. Adoption! Pawsitive Change has given them the skills they lacked and the confidence to move forward. They’ve worked along side men much like themselves. Men forgotten by society. Neither Jan or Peter had any adoption interest during their time at the shelter and they still have not received even one application during their time with us. As they near their graduation date we’d love to see them both head into amazing adoptive homes and start the next chapter of their journey. Both dog friendly and so incredibly sweet they now have a solid training foundation thanks to Pawsitive Change. They have the skills most adopters want and we just need to find adopters willing to open their homes. Jan and Peter aren’t bonded and can be adopted into separate homes. If someone is looking for two dogs though they get along beautifully and could be adopted together. Can you help us give these beautiful siblings the families they’ve been working so hard to find? One share is all it may take for those families to find them ❤️ #marleysmutts #muttmilitia #dogrescue #foster #adopt #rescuedog #secondchance #fostering #animaladvocate #adopt #dogrescue #fosteringsaveslives #savealife #shelter #adoption #foreverhome #spayandneuter #rescuedog #rescue #adoptdontshop #adoptme #rescuedismyfavoritebreed #dontshopadopt ♬ It will be okay – Peanuds

Once rescued, the two were taken to a shelter where they initially struggled to adapt. Jan always appeared shy and withdrawn, while Peter, on the other hand, couldn’t navigate his surroundings comfortably due to a fractured leg. All in all, Peter and Jan never stopped being there for each other.

As time went by, Peter’s leg healed completely, and Jan came out of her shell. They both started thriving at the shelter, even making many doggie friends while at it. Sadly, despite their sweet, friendly nature, Peter and Jan became among the most overlooked dogs at the shelter.

From Overlooked to Possible Euthanasia

Day after day, Peter and Jan watched as their doggie friends exited the shelter to start new lives with their forever families. They also couldn’t help but notice how potential adopters treated them as invisible; no visitor would even bother to give them a second glance.

Unfortunately, two months elapsed without Peter or Jan getting a single adoption application, prompting the shelter to list them for euthanasia.

Lucky for Peter and Jan, fate had other plans. Marley’s Mutts Dog Rescue in California heard of their plight and took them in, saving this amazing duo from euthanasia. Unknown to Peter and Jan, being at Marley’s Mutts would transform their lives in a way they never imagined.

A Life-Changing Training Program

Peter and Jan

Rather than letting Peter and Jan spend much of their time in solitude waiting to be noticed by potential adopters, Marleys Mutts chose to do things differently. They enrolled Peter and Jan in their canine training program — the Pawsitive Change Program — offered at the North Kern State Prison. This program shapes adoptable dogs at Marley’s Mutts into confident, all-rounded companions. We’re thrilled to report that Peter and Jan have become this kind of companions.

Since starting training, Peter and Jan have not only gained a sense of purpose but also become unrecognizable in terms of their manners and confidence. The best part? They’re about to graduate from the training program. These two lovely pups have worked harder than most dogs out there, and it’s only fair that they receive more than just a certificate of completion upon graduating. Peter and Jan deserve to have a home to call their own.

Please Give Peter or Jan a Forever Home

Peter and Jan have fought so hard for their second chance, and now more than ever, they yearn to be part of a forever family. They’ve endured and conquered so much, and it’s time for them to experience the beautiful side of life like other cherished dogs out there. Peter and Jan can be adopted separately but won’t mind going to the same home.

These two sweet, forgiving souls have put their harsh past behind them and are ready to fiercely love whoever will take a chance on them. Will you be the one to give them the forever home they so deserve? Please consider adopting Peter or Jan and be the hero in their happy ending. Best believe, they are worth it!
