One such dog experiencing this heartbreaking reality is Norman, a 4-year-old Terrier Mix currently at the Miami-Dade Animal Services. Norman isn’t like the rest of the shelter dogs, and that’s because he’s one of the longest residents there.
Since August 2022, this lovely boy has been waiting to become someone’s best friend but hasn’t been lucky enough to find a permanent home. In a few days (August 2024), Norman will clock two years as a shelter resident, a looming reality that’s breaking the hearts of staff at the shelter. They simply don’t understand why Normal is still with them, yet he has too many amazing qualities that make him worthy of a good home.
Trying to Keep it Together
If we’re being honest, two years is such a long time for a dog to be at the shelter. It’s not easy for long-term shelter stayers to radiate optimism, but Norman has proven that this is possible.
