Sweet Blue Pittie Rescued from Deplorable Living Conditions, Now Seeks Loving Home

Nip is a gorgeous three-year-old male American Staffordshire Terrier being housed by the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter in Wantagh, New York, while he waits for an adopter to notice him. One of the most desirable Pitbull colors, this blue boy had a hard life before he was brought to the shelter.

A dog with a history, Nip is waiting for a human who can see how amazing he is through his shy personality and behavior quirks. Unfortunately, it’s hard for Pitbulls to get adopted, and some of Nip’s unique needs stack up against him. When the right person meets Nip, they’ll see how much love and fun he is ready to share. Let’s get the word out about this adoptable pup so he doesn’t have to spend another week at the shelter.

Get To Know Nip the Pit

Before Nip was brought to the shelter, he lived in deplorable conditions. Nip’s former owners didn’t care much about Nip or their other pets. Nip’s home was so unsafe that he was seized by authorities and brought to the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter along with four other dogs from the same home.

Because Nip has had a tough life and hasn’t met many humans who show him kindness, he’s a little shy. It can take Nip a little time to warm up, and he needs a human who understands how to be patient and let Nip take the lead. Once Nip gets used to someone, he really enjoys spending time with people, especially if it involves going for a walk.

Nip loves to be outside and would love a home with a big fenced-in yard he can explore. Because Nip is not dog-friendly, a fenced-in yard is extra important since he won’t be able to visit dog parks or off-leash areas with other dogs.

Nip needs time to get used to his new life, and staff at the Town of Hempstead Animal Shelter recommend an adult-only home or a home with older kids/teens who are experienced with dogs

Why You Should Adopt a Shy Dog

Dogs rarely show their true personalities at the shelter—even the most outgoing dog can become shut down in this stressful environment. Too many dogs are overlooked because they appear shy in their shelter kennels, but I urge you to give shy dogs a chance! Dogs that seem aloof in the shelter can become the most loving, human-focused dogs ever, and you’ll find that your new best friend will be endlessly thankful you rescued them.
