Stray Dog Caught in Raging Storm, Barely Surviving—Then Loving Strangers Changed Everything
Pedro, a stray dog battling the relentless monsoon rains of Thailand, was found in heartbreaking condition. Emaciated and riddled with deep wounds, mange, pressure sores, and severe infections, he was barely clinging to life. (Watch Video Below)
When a compassionate passerby reported the struggling dog, the Thailand-based charity Happy Doggo acted quickly. Niall Harbison, the charity’s founder, shared that the first photo they received of Pedro captured a haunting sadness in his eyes. It was clear they had to do whatever it took to save him.
@happydoggoniall I get so many messages about sick dogs every single day but sometimes a photo pops in where you just have to drop everything and spring into action. A kind local lady messaged about a dog who had been spotted roaming in the monsoon rains and looking very poorly. His initial photo actually reminded me of Tina. He looked so so sad. As broken as a dog can seem. I got there with Sybille and although he was fairly gentle he did lash out and try and bite me 2/3 times. It wasn’t in anyway aggressive but just more in pain and protecting himself. He wasn’t sure that we were there to help him. The vets also felt a bit traumatic for him. Pedro has settled in to @wearehappydoggo really well. I’ve never seen a dog want to sleep as much as him. His body is absolutely shattered and it has collapsed a bit since coming in which is totally normal. He knows he is safe now so the fight or flight mode has switched off. He is in agony with his skin and some cuts and injuries but he has medicines, a dry place to sleep and most important he feels love. I love all dogs we save but there is something very special about Pedro. He has a big presence and a gentle soft nature that is waiting to show itself when he heals up. Pedro Lashed Out At Rescue Team
When the Happy Doggo team set out to rescue Pedro, he was understandably distrustful. As they attempted to bring him into their vehicle, he acted aggressively, even biting Harbison a few times. However, his hostility stemmed from sheer terror and overwhelming nervousness. It was evident that Pedro had endured tremendous adversity, leaving him deeply wary of humans.
After successfully bringing Pedro to the vet, he had to be sedated for a thorough examination and treatment. His body was riddled with open wounds and multiple bacterial infections, but the veterinary team worked tirelessly to alleviate much of his pain. The most excruciating issue was his severely infected ears, which required immediate attention.
Grief Transformed Into Hope
Whereas once Pedro’s eyes were filled with immense sadness, after getting the required medical treatment, they now have a spark of hope. Finally feeling safe at the charity premises, the dog is currently focusing on resting, sleeping 23 hours a day.
Although Pedro’s body and skin are still far from fully healed, his spirit has begun to mend. He now trusts his rescuers enough to stay close without fear of running away. With much-needed love and care, Pedro is on the path to recovery and will soon be ready to become a cherished member of a loving family.
The charity shared the pup’s story on TikTok, garnering plenty of attention from users on the platform with over 134K views and about 12K likes. A Tiktok user, Julie, commented, “Aww Pedro it’s horrible to see you so scared but soon you will be a very happy chappy 🥰” Meanwhile, Dani wrote, “He already has a smile on his face. Thank you for all you do with these helpless angels.”
