Starving Pit Bull Collapses in Stranger’s Yard During Heatwave—What Happened Next Saved Her
During a scorching Detroit heatwave in late June, a family stepped into their yard and found something they’ll never forget: a severely emaciated Pit Bull lying helpless in the grass, too weak to move. Exhausted and defeated, the pup likely wouldn’t have survived much longer. But instead of turning away, the family sprang into action, doing everything they could to give her a second chance.
According to veterinarian Barri J. Morrison, extreme heat can be fatal for dogs, especially when combined with malnutrition and neglect—making this dog’s survival all the more miraculous.
Defeated But Not Broken
The family saw how this skinny dog desperately needed someone to rescue him and take him to safety. So, they contacted every rescue they knew for two days, but no one came to help. Unfortunately, they had to go out of town and leave the Pittie behind.
But they still didn’t stop trying to get her help. Finally, a family friend reached out to Rebel Dogs Detroit, who wasted no time in rushing to save the dog.
The rescue team found her right where the family had left her, as if she knew help would come. They were surprised to see that after everything she had endured, she was as sweet as sugar. She calmly let them slip her head into their lead and take her to their car.
