Shot, Paralyzed & Abandoned With Her Pups—Now Bailey the Pittie Just Wants to Love Again
Five years ago, Bailey—a Pitbull/Labrador mix—was found clinging to life in a remote California field, her puppies huddled beside her. She had been shot in the back and left for dead, struggling through excruciating pain until rescuers from Marley’s Mutts Dog Rescue stepped in and saved her life. (Watch Video Below)
@marleysmuttsdogrescue Like the Phoenix that she is Bailey, formerly Ayanna, rose from the ashes of her previous life. Shot, paralyzed and left to die with her puppies in a field near Visalia. This sweet girl overcame all odds, raised happy and healthy puppies and eventually found the most wonderful adoptive home and mom over 4 years ago. What should have been an amazing rescue story and life has ended in tragedy. Bailey’s adoptive mom suddenly and unexpectedly lost her life. To say we are heartbroken is an understatement. Such an amazing human has left our world and Bailey begins her rescue journey again. Bailey is what a survivor looks like! She is proof that no matter the horrors a dog has seen they will come back a stronger better version of themselves. She has never let her past define her and has an amazing temperament with all humans including children and every dog she’s met. Shes an ambassador for her breed and so incredibly gentle and sweet. We are determined to find her the kind of amazing home she sadly lost. Bailey is paralyzed from the waist down and relies on a wheelchair for her extended mobility. Shes looking for a family willing to provide a wheelie pup with the additional care they need and accept her physical differences as they don’t make her any less of an amazing family member. If you’re looking to adopt a true survivor and a really amazing dog please consider giving Bailey her forever home. #marleysmutts #muttmilitia #dogrescue #foster #adopt #rescuedog #secondchance #fostering #animaladvocate #adopt #dogrescue #fosteringsaveslives #savealife #shelter #adoption #foreverhome #spayandneuter #rescuedog #rescue #adoptdontshop #adoptme #rescuedismyfavoritebreed #dontshopadopt ♬ original sound – Marley’s Mutts
Veterinarians treated her injuries, but the damage left her paralyzed from the waist down. While her physical recovery was daunting, staff at the rescue were equally concerned about her emotional state, fearing the trauma might leave lasting scars.
Instead, Bailey defied expectations. With consistent care and gentle support, she adapted to life in a wheelchair and emerged as one of the shelter’s most affectionate and resilient dogs. Her trust in people remained unshaken, and her upbeat happy-go-lucky personality quickly made her a favorite among volunteers.
Finding Happiness, then Losing Everything

At the shelter, it didn’t take long for Bailey’s puppies to find adoptive homes. Bailey, on the other hand, had to wait a little longer for her forever family. Thankfully, her waiting came to an end when an amazing family decided to take a chance on her.
Bailey’s new family was a dream come true for her. They adored her to bits, invested in her physical rehabilitation, and spoiled her with every good thing she liked. Tragically, Bailey’s owner recently passed away. Bailey was returned to the shelter and is now in a foster home, waiting for her forever home.
Bailey’s Counting On You for a Happy Ending

Ever met a dog that chooses happiness over self-pity every single day they wake up? That’s Bailey for you. While some people may view her as “broken” or “incomplete” because of her paralysis, those who know her inside out will tell you she is whole in every way.
Bailey is the sweetest, most friendly dog you’ll ever come across. Seeing her run and play with enthusiasm will, for a moment, make you forget that this pup once endured agonizing pain. Bailey gets along with literally everyone — adults, kids, other pets, strangers, you name it! Her optimism is infectious; she reminds everyone around her that life is worth living, even if you’re stuck in a wheelchair.
Bailey loves with every inch of her, and she’s ready to start afresh with someone who’ll cherish her as she deserves, just as her previous family did. Don’t we all agree that this brave survivor deserves to grow old in a loving home?
