She Lost Her Puppies, Her Leg, and Her Home—But Andrea the Tripod Shepherd Just Wants to be Loved
At only two years old, Andrea — a German Shepherd — has been through hell and back. Despite her young age, life has shown her a level of unkindness that most dogs never get to experience in the course of their lifetime.
Andrea was recently surrendered to Mercy Full Project animal rescue in Tampa, FL, by the family she once considered her everything. The most heartbreaking part is that prior to her surrender, Andrea had been knocked down by a vehicle, an incident that left one of her hind legs seriously injured.

Sadly for Andrea, her family — the one she thought would always care for her, come rain, come sunshine — wasn’t willing to spend a coin on her treatment. They watched her suffer agonizing pain for days, but did nothing to help this sweet girl. Eventually, they made a decision to surrender a limping Andrea to the rescue.
The Tough Decision
By the time the Mercy Full Project’s medical team got to examine Andrea’s leg, it was already too late. Her leg was damaged beyond saving, and the only option left was to amputate it. Just like that, Andrea went from not only losing her home but also losing her hind leg.
While at the rescue, staff members also got to learn that Andrea had lost all her puppies a few days before the car accident due to malnourishment. Not one, not two, but an entire litter of eight puppies. Andrea knows what it’s like to experience one painful tragedy after another, and for this reason, everyone at the shelter expected her to lash out at those around her. Surprisingly, this wasn’t the case.
Andrea is simply extraordinary. She may have lost everything that meant the world to her — her leg, home, and babies — but her heart is bigger than ever.
A Heart Overflowing With Love
It’s hard to put into words just how sweet, optimistic, goofy, and gentle Andrea is. Despite all she’s been through at the hands of humans who took her for granted, this three-legged pup is still a huge lover of people. She trusts without hesitation, proving just how forgiving dogs can be.
Andrea has quickly adapted to doing life with three legs, and trust us, the missing limb doesn’t slow her one bit. We’re not even exaggerating — her love for walks needs a proper peer-reviewed study.
