Senior Dog Melts Hearts on TV—But Not a Single Adoption Application Came In
When the Humane Society of Broward County picked their very own 10-year-old Kiki — a Labrador Retriever Mix — to appear on a local TV segment that shines the spotlight on adoptable dogs, staff and volunteers at the shelter had high expectations. They knew that this TV appearance would lead to Kiki’s big break: that she’d finally land the forever home of her dreams. After all, being on TV meant that Kiki would be watched by thousands of people who’d get to see how much of a perfect girl she is.
@humanebroward Oh Kiki 🥺💔 Even after her appearance on television, no one came in to adopt our sweet senior Kiki 😔 10-year-old Kiki is at our shelter through no fault of her own. Her elderly owner can no longer care for her due to an injury, and it breaks both of their hearts 💔 Kiki is such kindhearted, sweet, gentle and cuddly dog ❤️ She wants nothing more than to be near you and be your best friend. She is potty trained and appears to be good with other animals and loves people big and small ❤️ Please share and help Kiki enjoy her golden years in a loving home 🙏 If you are able to adopt or foster Kiki, please fill out an application on our website www.humanebroward.com (link is in bio) and then come in to the shelter ❤️ If you cannot adopt, please share her post and consider donating to her care through the link in our bio 🙏 Our shelter is located at 2070 Griffin Road, Fort Lauderdale, FL and opens daily at 11 a.m. If you have any questions call 954-989-3977 ext. 6. #rescuedog #shelterdog #adoptme #adoptdontshop #dogsoftiktok #florida #labradorretriever #staffy #dogsoftheday #dogrescue #dog #dogshelter #animalrescue #animalshelter #labsoftiktok #adoption #retriever #doglover #frostedfaces #seniordog #adoptasenior #foryou #fyp #dogreels #foryoupage #labradorsoftiktok #sweet #retrieveroftheday #olddog #blacklab #labmix #blackdog ♬ original sound – Humane Society Broward County
Staff members knew without a doubt that Kiki would win the hearts of not just everyone at the studio, but viewers, too. And she did exactly that. What they didn’t see coming was Kiki not getting a single adoption application after all that good publicity.
Kiki — whom the shelter considers a one-of-a-kind companion — is still waiting in her kennel several days after her TV appearance because everyone who tuned in forgot about her existence soon after.
Perfect Yet Ignored
Before coming to the shelter, Kiki had a loving home to call her own. Sadly, her elderly owner suffered an injury that made it difficult for them to care for sweet Kiki, leaving them with no choice but to bring her to the shelter.
Besides losing the only family she ever knew in such a saddening manner, Kiki has had to deal with the heartbreak of watching potential adopters walk past her kennel with that “she’s too old for me” look on their faces. Day after day, she sees them go for puppies and other younger dogs yet she’s as equally amazing as the rest. Sure, Kiki’s muzzle may be gray. But her heart? As golden as it could get.
Kiki loves like it’s the only thing she was brought on earth to do. When others see an “old” 10-year-old dog, staff and volunteers see her as a pup with a decade of experience showing love and loyalty.
Plus, Kiki spent years in a loving home, meaning you won’t need to teach her the ropes. She’s already potty trained, well-mannered, and familiar with routines. Her only wish is for someone out there to give her a chance because let’s face it, Kiki doesn’t deserve to be living out her golden years all alone in a kennel.
Could You Give Kiki a Home?
Kiki is the kind of dog who’s too gentle and easygoing with everyone — adults, children, strangers, other pets…..you name it. She’s the type to curl up quietly by your feet as you work and snuggle so close to you on the couch after a long day.
Now that she’s past her prime, Kiki isn’t pressed about the big stuff; you know, a big yard, plenty of toys, and all the many demands that dogs younger and more active than her may have. All Kiki wants is to be someone’s best friend. Could that be you?
If you’d love to give Kiki a forever home, kindly visit the Humane Society of Broward County’s website for details on her adoption process.
