Puppy Survived Houston’s Cruelest Streets With Nothing but a Newspaper

In Houston, Texas, a fragile puppy named Bingo was discovered roaming the streets with only a folded newspaper gripped between his teeth. Left to fend for himself in the area grimly nicknamed the “Corridor of Cruelty,” his chances of survival were slim. Corridor Rescue, the organization dedicated to saving dogs from this harsh stretch of road, stepped in just in time to give Bingo the chance at life he so desperately needed. (Watch Video Above)

“The sheer number of dogs abandoned, dumped and allowed to roam the streets of this area is mind-boggling,” says the Corridor Rescue website. “The animals are unwanted, seen as a nuisance, and in some cases wrongly thought of as aggressive. People hit them, throw things at them, shoot them, fight them, and even deliberately run them over.”

Thankfully, Bingo was picked up—along with his newspaper—and brought to Corridor Rescue to receive care. Now, this puppy with the odds stacked against him is starting a new life.

Who knows just how long Bingo was alone on the streets, but Corridor Rescue’s veterinarians quickly discovered that he was in rough shape. This sweet puppy was diagnosed with parvovirus and mange, which meant he had to be isolated to begin his recovery. Parvovirus is highly contagious and deadly, so Bingo had to be kept in quarantine to protect other dogs.

Bingo also needed treatment for mange caused by microscopic parasitic mites. Left untreated, dogs with mange can experience serious health complications like anemia, skin infections, malnourishment, and even death. We’re so glad rescuers got to Bingo before it was too late.

Despite being sick, Bingo got to experience so many firsts while in Corridor Rescue’s care. Bingo played with his first toys, made friends in puppy playgroup for the first time, and grew into his giant ears—which also kept growing!

Facing Rejection & Waiting For The Right Adopter

Once Bingo healed from parvo and mange he was ready for adoption, and plenty of applications piled in. Unfortunately, Bingo had to overcome a lot of bias to find the right forever home. Pit Bulls and Bully mixes like Bingo often face breed discrimination and miss out on adopters because of their false beliefs about the breed.

“As application after application rolled in, for one reason or another, it never quite worked out between Bingo and his potential adopters,” says the caption of Corridor Rescue’s recent TikTok updating followers on Bingo’s adoption status. “Some wanted younger, some wanted older, one wanted him to live outdoors, and others still were turned away by his presumed breed.”

Finally, the right person applied and Bingo—now named Chance—got his forever home! Good luck, Chance!
