Snapchat Video Shows Woman Urging Dogs to Kill 15-Year-Old Cat. Outrage Follows.
In a shocking act of cruelty, a woman in Burnley, England, encouraged her dogs to attack and kill a neighbor’s elderly cat—then posted the video on Snapchat, laughing as it unfolded. The victim was Poppy, a 15-year-old black-and-white cat whose lifeless body was later found dumped in a bin.
The disturbing video showed Alexandra Gregson repeatedly urging her dogs to “get that little cat,” while Poppy sat frozen in fear. At first, the dogs hesitated, but with repeated commands, they were “goaded” into attacking, according to a veterinarian who reviewed the footage. The incident took place on April 30, 2024. Gregson, already incarcerated for unrelated charges, posted the attack to Snapchat, where she could be heard laughing as her dogs mauled Poppy. The RSPCA described the video as “incredibly distressing to watch,” noting the dogs had shown no interest in Poppy until their owner urged them on.
“This must have been a terrifying experience for Poppy,” said Inspector Miranda Albinson of the RSPCA. “She never had a chance.”
Gregson was later sentenced at Burnley Crown Court to 10 months in prison after pleading guilty to animal welfare offenses. But many animal advocates believe the punishment does not go far enough.
