When Sydney Hoffman received an animal motion alert from her front door’s security camera one ordinary afternoon, she never imagined this would be the start of a heartwarming rescue mission that would impact her life deeply.
As revealed on her TikTok account @syd.hoff, Sydney initially thought the animal was a Coyote. But upon closer look, she discovered the animal triggering the alarm system was a fearful, malnourished stray puppy who, like most stray dogs out there, appeared to have experienced their unfair share of the worst that life has to offer.
Sydney’s heart shattered at the sight of this utterly vulnerable pup — now named Dobby — compelling her to take action.

A Challenging Rescue
Unfortunately, Dobby was too terrified to accept Sydney’s help due to her deep-seated fear of humans. Sydney tried all she could to lure her — including leaving enticing food out in the open for her — but Dobby would dart away whenever Sydney came close.
For the next few days, Dobby continued showing up at Sydney’s house. Still, catching her wasn’t easy. It was clear that Dobby’s mistrust of humans was possibly triggered by a traumatic experience, and earning her trust would require tons of patience. Above all, Sydney was increasingly worried about Dobby’s safety as she roamed all alone in an area where coyotes were a common sight.
Recognizing she had to act fast, Sydney enlisted the help of her neighbors to catch Dobby. Thankfully, the team effort bore fruit, as they were able to get a hold of her.
A Fresh Start
Once Dobby was secure in her care, Sydney took her to a local rescue to check whether she had a microchip on. Fortunately, she hadn’t been microchipped, which gave Sydney the green light to open her heart and home to Dobby forever.
It didn’t take before Dobby began to relax in Sydney’s presence, her trust building up with every gentle gesture and nourishing meal. Little by little, she started to heal emotionally, recognizing that she no longer had to be wary about her human savior. Dobby eventually came out of her shell, closing the emotional gap that existed between her and Sydney.
One Year Down, Forever to Go
It’s now one year since Sydney took a chance on Dobby. Each day for her serves as a reminder that saving Dobby was worth the effort, given the joy and laughter this sweet pup has brought to her life. Dobby has fully integrated into her new home, and she’s not only formed a strong bond with Sydney but also with the other family dog, a Frenchie named Gary.
“It was very clear Dobby didn’t have the best life. But she is the sweetest most gentle who just wants cuddles and belly rubs. She has been the best addition to our family,” Sydney captioned in a video.
Dobby has put her wretched past behind her and continues to thrive as a cherished member of a loving family. Her happy ending is a reminder that a few things are as fulfilling as giving a stray dog a chance to experience true happiness, which they all deeply deserve.
