Innocent Pitbull Falls Prey to Outdated Stereotype. Now Desperately Seeking a Hero
Discriminatory breed-specific legislation and renter restrictions directly contribute to increased rates of housing insecurity and pet euthanasia.
When people canโt find homes to live in with their beloved pets, they have to make the heartbreaking choice between a safe home for themselves and keeping their dogs. Sometimes called โPitbull shaming,โ laws and restrictions preventing Pitbulls from living in certain cities, neighborhoods, and apartment buildings donโt solve anything; they put dogsโand humansโat risk.
When Shortyโs former foster home was told they couldnโt keep him because he is a Pitbull, this sweet adoptable dog was forced into shelter boarding. Stressed, confused, and overwhelmed, Shorty is deteriorating emotionally, and in desperate need of a hero.

Currently in Roswell, Georgia in the care of Brave Heart Bulliez Rescue, Shorty has been let down over and over but isnโt giving up on finding a forever home that can see past breed bias.
Shorty the Pitbull Is The Perfect Pitbull Ambassador
Shorty is a three-year-old Pitbull with a gorgeous deep chocolate brown coat with white markings. Described as a โpeople-dogโ who loves to be with his humans during every waking (and sleeping) hour, Shorty is great with everyone and is even kid-friendly!

A compact canine, Shorty is fairly small compared to the average Pitbull, but he has lots of joy and positivity in that short body. Laid-back, affectionate, and cuddly, Shortyโs ideal day would be spent with his humans getting their undivided attention and relaxing on the couch. Shorty does get some spurts of energy, and when he gets the zoomies he runs in circles as fast as he can!
Super well-behaved, Shortyโs former foster says that he never gets into mischief, but doesnโt get along with other dogs or cats. Shorty is a model example of the loving Pitbull personality, and itโs hard to imagine how anyone could judge Shorty simply based on myths about his breed.

How To Manage Breed-Specific Legislation If You Own a Pitbull or Bully Breed
Unfortunately, many cities, municipalities, and rental companies/landlords enforce biased breed restrictions, particularly on Pitbulls and other Bully breeds. Some dog breeds are (incorrectly) seen as such a high liability that insurance companies will increase your rates if you own one.
If you live somewhere with breed bans or restrictions, think very carefully before committing to owning a Pitbull or Bully breed. Learn as much as you can about your local regulations to avoid losing your dog down the road. Some places may ban specific dog breeds altogether, while other regions will have specific requirements for these dogs and their owners.
If you live in or near Roswell, Georgia, and can give Shorty a chance at a forever home, fill out an adoption application through Brave Heart Bulliez Rescue. Even if Shorty isnโt the right dog for you, please consider adopting a Pitbull or Bully breed from your local shelter to help fight breed bias!
