Hearts Shattered As Shelter’s Longest Resident Is Abandoned After Adoption, Owner No Longer Wants Him
When the NAWS Humane Society in Mokena, Illinois, recently received an adoption application for their longest-term resident, Yoda, they couldn’t contain their joy. You see, four-year-old Yoda had been at the shelter for nearly 600 days, watching visitors pass him by. So when one potential adopter expressed interest in giving Yoda a forever home a few weeks ago, staff at the shelter were elated that this adorable Pittie Mix had finally gotten the happy ending he so deserved.
What they didn’t expect was that this happiness would be short-lived, as sweet Yoda is now back at the shelter after his new owner abandoned him.
Heartbreaking Turn of Events
According to the Humane Society, Yoda was found as a stray by animal control just days after his adoption. Upon being contacted, his new owner revealed they no longer wanted anything to do with Yoda, citing that this furry sweetheart of a boy was too energetic for their liking.
While it’s a miracle that Yoda was found safe and sound as he wandered the streets, the shelter says he’s having a hard time accepting his new reality: that he’s once again stuck in a kennel and not in a warm, cosy home with a loving family. Yoda didn’t deserve the betrayal he experienced from the person he thought would be his forever human, given how long he had languished in his kennel prior to his adoption. His big heart is still aching for a family that will see him for the amazing dog he is and not give up on him at any point.
“Yoda’s story is a reminder that the path to finding a forever family can be filled with twists and turns. His story is far from over, and we’re here to support him every step of the way,” pet rescue advocate Rocky Kanaka says.
@nawshumanesocietymokena Last week, we received a call from an animal control two hours away saying thay Yoda was in their care. We assumed the best and thought he had just gotten away from his adopter. We attempted to reach his adopter for days with no response. It finally sank in that they were not coming to get him. His adopter eventually reached out stating he was too energetic for her and would not be picking him up or wanting him back. If we did not know he was at the animal contorl he wouldve been euthanized days later. We are grateful he is safe but very upset and heartbroken for him. How long was he lost for?? How come we were never notified of issues? These are tbe stories that break us. But we will never give up on yoda. Yoda is now once again up for adoption. Could You Give Yoda a Chance?
Staff at the Humane Society describe Yoda as an active, friendly pup with an adventurous spirit and a love for learning new tricks and commands. His idea of a good time entails going for walks and other exciting outdoor activities, playing with his toys, and undertaking fun training sessions.
Yoda’s playful demeanour and affectionate nature leave a lasting impression on everyone he interacts with, so expect him to bond effortlessly with those in your circle. Even though he’s a happy-go-lucky pup, this absolute bundle of energy would flourish best in a home where he’s the only pet. Yoda is without a doubt worthy of a loving family that will treat him like the treasure he is.
