Given Up Because She’s “Too Much Work” — This Gentle Dog Would Do Anything to Be Chosen

When you see this 2-year-old Pit Bull Terrier Mix run around carefree like she’s training for the Olympics, you’ll find it hard to believe that there was a time she couldn’t use her hind legs.

Tink is a currently at the NAWS Humane Society in Mokena, IL. This sweetheart of a girl was diagnosed with a neurological problem when she was a puppy. Sadly, the neurological abnormalities led to her developing incontinence issues. (Watch Video Below)

@nawshumanesocietymokena Meet Tink! Tink came to us as a small puppy and had neurological issues which caused her to be incontinent. She was quickly adopted and trained to wear special diapers in her new home. Besides the diapers, she lives and plays and loves just like a normal dog. Her previous owner gave her up at the beginning of the year due to being too much work and has since gotten a new puppy in place of Tink. Our hearts break for her. We know circumstances come up, but poor Tink is now waiting and suffering. She has so much love to give and deserves the same in return. When Tink was still a young puppy, she found a forever home that promised to give her the special care she needed. Staff members gave her the warmest goodbye hugs as she exited the shelter with her new family, not knowing her newfound happiness would come to an abrupt end.

Tink’s owner got tired of changing her diapers every other day and ultimately, they returned her to the shelter, citing that “she was too much work.”

A Resilient Soul

Tink first arrived at the shelter back in 2023 when she was only eight weeks old. Besides being unable to control her bladder, she had also lost mobility in her hind legs at the time due to the neurological issues. But Tink fought so hard to regain her mobility. She gave her all during every physical therapy session. Eventually, Tink’s hind legs grew stronger, and she started to move around with ease.

Today, sweet Tink plays, walks, and runs almost as comfortably as any other dog. Even though her bladder is still imperfect, Tink spends every day showing everyone at the shelter that there’s a lot she brings to the table beyond an unglamorous diagnosis.

Tink has come so far. It’s probably the sole reason why she tries so hard not to shut down. Lately, though, Tink’s been feeling quite stressed waiting for a forever family that never seems to come. It’s even harder for her because she’s tasted life in a real home before, and so every day of waking up in a kennel reminds her of where her heart longs to be.

Tink has been let down before, yet it’s not her fault that her body acts the way it does. That’s why all she craves is for someone to see that her heart is way bigger than her incontinence problem — because it really is. Tink isn’t asking you to assume her medical condition does not exist. All she’s asking for is a chance to prove to you that there’s more to her than her incontinence. Honestly, the depth of love and affection that Tink offers freely is worth every second you’ll spend changing her diaper.

Tink, as young as she is, already knows the pain of losing a home. She’s watched visitors shake their heads to say “no” when they’re told she’s incontinent. Please be the person who finally says a resounding yes to her. Trust us, it won’t take you long to discover that Tink is sweetness, warmth, gentleness, gratitude, and goofiness all wrapped in fur.
