Everyone Wants to Adopt This Mama Dog’s Puppies, But Nobody Wants Her
When Sophie — a German Shepherd — first arrived at the National Mill Dog Rescue (NMDR) in Peyton, Colorado, she was heavily pregnant. Sophie had been reduced to a mere breeding tool all her life, forced to churn out puppies over and over again by selfish, profit-minded individuals. Ultimately, they discarded her when they decided she wasn’t of use anymore. (Watch Video Below)
@milldogrescue By now, you’ve probably seen our 10 adorable German Shepherd puppies who are almost ready to go home… but today, we want to introduce you to someone truly special: Sophie — their brave, patient, and incredibly loving mom. 💛 Sophie arrived at NMDR very pregnant, just days away from giving birth. Her belly was so big, it was hard at first to tell how underweight she really was. But as soon as her puppies arrived, it became clear—this mama needed some TLC of her own. Despite her condition, Sophie never let it affect the way she cared for her little ones. We’ve seen a lot of moms and litters come through our doors, but Sophie’s patience and gentleness are something special. Whether it’s feeding around the clock, enduring endless nips, or having her tail used as the newest puppy toy—Sophie meets it all with love and grace. While we’ve received a flood of applications for her puppies (more than we have pups!), our biggest hope is that when her babies find their forever homes, Sophie finds hers too. After a life of being used for breeding, this is her final litter—and now it’s her turn to be someone’s baby. Sophie will be available once her puppies are ready for adoption in a few weeks, but you can submit your application for her now and be pre-approved before she’s listed on the site. Let’s make sure this amazing mama knows just how loved and deserving she is—because she truly is one of a kind. 🐾 #AdoptSophie #MamaDog #FromRescueToForever #GermanShepherd #Colorado #dogrescue #rescuedog #NationalMillDogRescue #EveryDogDeservesAHome #AdoptDontShop ♬ original sound – National Mill Dog Rescue
Sophie was underweight when she came to the animal rescue, and though her swollen belly masked her true state, it became noticeable the moment she gave birth. Thankfully, Sophie was introduced to something she had never experienced her entire life: TLC. Staff members at NMDR went over and beyond to make sure she felt loved and cared for, including giving her nourishing meals that her postpartum body needed to become stronger and milk-ready for her newborns.
A One-of-a-Kind Mother
Sophie gave birth just a few days after coming to the rescue. From the moment her babies entered this world, Sophie has been nothing short of a remarkable mother. Everyone at the shelter describes her as an unbelievably patient, loving, and gentle mom to her ten babies — we’re not even exaggerating.

Despite her painful life experiences and “new mom exhaustion,” Sophie’s unshakable dedication to her litter stands out. She lets them suckle for hours, quickly responds to each pup’s faint squeaks with a soothing lick, allows them to crawl all over her as much as they want, and never lashes out when they convert her tail into a chew toy.
Sophie is paws-down one of the most nurturing dogs the rescue has ever encountered. And the best part is, she’s ready to begin afresh in a loving home where she’ll get to be someone’s cherished pet. Sadly, as incredibly amazing as Sophie is, not a single soul has shown interest in her.
Puppies on Demand, But Not Their Mother

NMDR has lost count of the number of adoption applications they’ve received for Sophie’s puppies. Every day, calls flood in of people inquiring about her insanely adorable babies.
But so far, not one person has asked about Sophie.
No one has enquired about the mother who carried ten beautiful puppies in her worn-out body. The mother who just keeps on giving and giving, while expecting nothing in return.
Sophie, like her babies, is deserving of a forever home, given the misery she endured in her past life. She’s never known what it means to have a collar bearing her name, a family that calls her name with love, or a soft bed all to herself. And despite missing out on life’s simple pleasures, Sophie seems extra hopeful; her constant tail wags and sweet demeanor scream volume about a dog who’s optimistic that there’s better out there for her. Could that be you?
Please Give Sophie a Chance

Sophie has proven just how extraordinary she is as a mother, and we have no doubt that’s exactly the pet she’ll be when she finds a forever home. If you’ve read till this point, we beg you: please don’t let Sophie go another day with an uncertain future.
The National Mill Dog Rescue is already accepting adoption applications for her. If you’d love to give sweet Sophie the fairytale ending she so deserves, apply here.
