Dumped & Lost Outdoors for Months—This Dog’s Emotional Reunion with Her Owner Will Wreck You

The owners of four Husky mixes feared they would never see their beloved dogs again when a trainer they had entrusted with their pups dumped the dogs in a rural area of southern Greenville, North Carolina. Why the trainer would do such a cruel and senseless thing is in many ways a mystery, but the main focus of the dogs’ owners was to get their babies back home.

@anakinstrailsdogsearch One of four pet Siberian Huskys that were dumped by a training facility in the southern part of Greenville county farmland , was found by the Anakin’s Trails Stray and Pet Recovery team and reunited with her owner after FIVE months of surviving in the wild on the run ! ##anakinstrails##animalrescue##fromthestreettothesofa##fyp##sc##trustthetrap##lostdog##animaltrapping##laurenssc ♬ original sound – AnakinsTrailsstray&petrecovery

Sick with worry for the safety of their dogs, the owners contacted Anakin’s Trails, a nonprofit pet and stray animal rescue and recovery group located in South Carolina. The Anakin’s Trails team specializes in finding lost pets and stray animals, setting traps, using trail cameras, following leads, and using years of experience to track down and rescue their targets. Since the dogs had been dumped in a rural area, their owners feared no one would find or pick them up, and they needed professional help.

Having a dog go missing for even a day is a nightmare for most people, but many cases of lost or dumped animals can take weeks and months to solve. In the case of these four dumped Husky mixes, the owners would have no relief from their worries for five long months.

Oakley Returns: But Will She Recognize Her Owner?

Dog’s Emotional Reunion with Her Owner

Finally, five months after the dogs were dumped, the first of four was located. Oakley was trapped by Anakin’s Trails volunteers and brought back home for a reunion. But five months in the wild would be hard on anyone. This sweet dog had been in survival mode, and Anakin’s Trails talks about something called “lost dog syndrome” which causes frightened animals to see everyone, their owners included, as predators.

When Oakley first entered her home, her tail was down, her ears were back, and she was looking at everyone suspiciously. Reunited with her owner in the living room, Oakley took a few long seconds to take everything in, and even shied away from her owner at first. Then, Oakley started sniffing and seemed to catch a whiff of something familiar.

All at once, Oakley’s body language changed. Her tail started wagging furiously, her expression and ears relaxed, and she lifted her head to kiss her owner. Moments later, Oakley was in the same chair as her owner, wiggling and rolling all over her, giving her endless kisses, completely overcome with joy!

Almost Whole Again: Two More Dogs Are Found

Though Oakley’s return was joyful, it was also tinged with a bittersweetness. More dogs were still missing, but the family was finally feeling a little bit of hope.

Shortly after Oakley was trapped and returned home, a good samaritan found another of their dogs and returned her to them. Then, Anakin’s Trails got a lead on the third dog and set out bait and traps in the area where she had been spotted. Two days later Marley was found in their trap.

@anakinstrailsdogsearch Owner reunited with second husky dog (Marley) when she was finally captured by the Anakin’s Trails Stray and Pet Recovery team after surviving in the wild for months with two of her sisters. Marley was captured days after her sister (Oakley) and reunited with her owner . As of now, there is still one sister on the run in the wild that the recovery team is adamantly trying to locate and capture . #anakinstrails #animalrescue #fyp #sc #trustthetrap #animaltrapping #lostdog #dogontherun ♬ original sound – Pixar & Dreamworks 🐐

Far less reluctant than her sister, Marley recognized their owner immediately. Their joyful reunion was full of laughs and jumping, and Marley could barely keep all four feet on the ground from her excitement. Thanks to the diligence of the team at Anakin’s Trails, the family was together again.
