Dog’s Sneaky Crate Escape Caught on Camera Goes Viral

If there’s one thing our canine friends are good at, it’s getting into mischief when their owners aren’t around. One dog on TikTok — an English Pointer/Beagle Mix named Lilah — has rightfully earned a top spot on the list of naughty dogs of the year after he was caught on camera freeing his puppy sibling from the crate.

Dog's Sneaky Crate Escape Caught on Camera Goes Viral

In a now-viral video posted on TikTok account @goldenmoose11, Lilah’s owner revealed she’d often wonder how her puppy, Moose, managed to get out of his crate anytime she left the house. This prompted her to set up a camera to get to the bottom of these mysterious crate escapes.

“I couldn’t figure out how my puppy kept getting out of his crate so I set up a camera to see,” reads part of the text layered over the clip.

The camera captures Lilah confirming whether his owner had left before heading over to the crate where his puppy sibling is. He’s then seen reaching for the crate’s door with his paws and mouth, and after a few seconds of struggle, skillfully opens it, allowing Moose to get out.

Since its uploading, the video has racked up over nine million views and thousands of hilarious comments.

“Puppy looked at the camera as if he should get rid of the evidence footage,” wrote one user.

“He was busting his friend outta jail!! Lol,” another added.

“The way he checked to make sure the coast was clear,” a third person commented.

While there’s great debate about whether or not owners should crate their dogs, the truth is, crates can act as safe havens for dogs who need a comfy, quiet space to retreat to.

“Dogs are den animals and naturally seek out small spaces where they can relax, chill, and snuggle without being disturbed by everything else going on around them. As such, crating is an opportunity to tap into your dog’s natural instincts. Done the right way, it makes life easy, predictable, and comfortable for you and your canine friend because you both understand what that space represents,” pet rescue advocate Rocky Kanana says.
