Dog Loses Two Legs and Survives, Now She’s Hoping for One Last Miracle This Holiday Season

A brave two-legged pup named Cola has already survived more hardship than most dogs ever will, and now she’s hoping for one last miracle: a forever home this holiday season. After being rescued from India and spending nearly two years waiting at Twenty Paws Rescue (TPR), Cola finally found a family in December 2024. (Watch Video Above)

But through no fault of her own, the adoption didn’t work out, and she has returned to the rescue that first gave her a second chance. Now, as the year comes to an end, Cola is wishing for what she deserves most: a warm, loving home where she can finally belong.

Cola’s Journey Across Continents

This 4-year-old Labrador Retriever mix has already survived more than most dogs ever should. While living in India, she suffered a devastating injury that left her without both of her hind legs. No one knows exactly what happened to her, only that she endured unimaginable pain before her life took a turn for the better.

Her miracle came in the form of Kannan Animal Welfare (KAW), a dedicated dog rescue in Delhi, India, that stepped in to save her in 2020. In March 2023, she was given an incredible opportunity: a journey to the U.S. and a second chance at life through Twenty Paws Rescue (TPR).

Once in the U.S., this sweet girl waited patiently—nearly two long years—for a family to finally call her their own. When she was adopted toward the end of 2024, it felt like the happy ending she had fought so hard for. But sometimes, even when there is love, a home just isn’t the right fit.

In her new environment, Cola struggled to peacefully coexist with one of the three resident dogs. The situation became stressful for everyone involved, especially for Cola, who had already overcome so much.

Starting Anew: Could You Be Cola’s Forever?

Rachel Salwen, TPR president, explains that their rescue always welcomes their dogs back, no questions asked. Their focus is simple and unwavering: making sure both the dog and the family feel safe, supported, and truly at home. When something doesn’t work out, they get determined more than ever to find the place where a dog like Cola can finally thrive.

After making the difficult decision to return Cola, her former adopters worked closely with the foster-based rescue to ensure she was cared for every step of the way. She is now settling into a foster home experienced with rescue dogs and animals with limb differences, giving her a safe and understanding environment.

Now back in the loving care of TPR in Wallkill, New York, Cola is once again waiting for a person to call her own. Despite everything she’s endured, her spirit remains unbreakable. Cola greets each day with pure joy, a wagging heart, and an infectious love for life that instantly draws people in.

She adores humans, charms everyone she meets, and happily zooms around on her custom 3D-printed wheels before settling in for sunbathing and cuddles. Cola needs someone who sees her strength and chooses her anyway. If you’re that someone, click here to learn more
