Ever since he was a puppy, Levi — an Australian Shepherd with the most stunning blue eyes ever — was lucky to have a family that adored every inch of him. Born deaf, Levi had adjusted perfectly to life without his sense of hearing, all thanks to his owners who made sure he never felt different, only special. You see, Levi had grown up with his two siblings whom he was so fond of. Unfortunately, they were both adopted into another family, which meant Levi no longer had constant friends to fill his silent world with beautiful chaos. Levi had an emptiness in his heart that not even his family could fill; he desperately wished there was another set of paws constantly by his side.
Struggle With Separation Anxiety
Each time his owners weren’t home, Levi would face the sting of loneliness all by himself. He’d spend most of his time seated next to the window, enviously watching the world move on without him.
The ache of separation anxiety became a persistent feeling, and his humans knew that they had to do something before Levi lost his spark completely. They had no doubts that what Levi needed was a sibling to play and snuggle with when his world felt too quiet and monotonous. So, they made the decision to bring home a second dog, a Golden Retriever whom they named Maisy.
BFFs From the Word Go
From the moment Levi laid his eyes on Maisy, he knew she was the sibling his heart never stopped craving. Surprisingly, their initial introduction went quite smoothly; there was no hesitation or need for time to build trust from both dogs.
It didn’t even matter to Levi that Maisy appeared younger than him. His tail wagged in disbelief as he sniffed his new best friend, and the two hit it off immediately as though they were long-lost friends. For the first time in a long time, Levi’s heart was fuller than it had ever been.
The furry duo would playfully wrestle in the yard, enjoy mud baths together, follow each other from room to room, take cozy naps, and keep each other company as they waited for their owners to come home in the evening. Levi never felt alone again because Maisy’s presence drowned away all the silence in his life.
Their now 3-year-old friendship was recently captured in a heartwarming TikTok video, and it’s short of magical.
A Pawfect Forever Friendship
To date, Levi and Maisy are still like two peas in a pod; inseparable. Now all grown, Maisy has learned how to communicate with her deaf sibling, often gently nudging him whenever she wants to play with him or alert him when their owners come home.
Although Levi has always been a happy pup, there’s a next-level kind of joy that he oozes whenever he is around Maisy. Safe to say, bringing home a second dog was one of the best decisions his owners ever made.
“Levi’s lonely days are now behind him. His world, once filled with solitude and silence, has never been louder with love and endless tail wags like it is at the moment,” pet rescue advocate Rocky Kanaka says.
