Many dogs and cats are afraid of vacuum cleaners, but with a little patience, you can easily teach them to enjoy the at-home grooming experience.

We’ve scoured the internet and read reviews from hundreds of pet owners to select the five best dog grooming vacuums on the market. Whether you need a heavy-duty dog de-shedding vacuum or an everyday dog brush vacuum attachment for quick brush-outs, you’ll find your perfect option here.

3. Best Dog Grooming Vacuum Attachment Brush: Dyson Pet Grooming Kit

Dog Vacuum

Buy From Dyson

Key Specifications:

  • Price: $69.99
  • Noise Range: Dependent on vacuum model
  • Suction Power: Dependent on vacuum model
  • Attachments: 3—Grooming Brush w. retractable bristles, Adapters (quick-release adapter, 3-foot extension hose)
  • Hose Length: 36 inches
  • Capacity: Dependent on vacuum model
  • Special Features: Self-cleaning brush

If you own a Dyson vacuum and want a minimalist dog hair brush vacuum attachment, this three-piece kit is going to be the best option for you. Unlike the other options on this list that include a vacuum, this kit only includes the pet grooming vacuum attachment. Featuring a brush with retractable bristles that make it really easy to clean out the hair, the Dyson pet grooming kit is compatible with ten Dyson vacuum models.

Most Dyson vacuums also come with a vacuum attachment for dog hair cleanup, but this kit doesn’t include any cleaning tools. The dog hair vacuum attachment is only for use while brushing your dog, but isn’t useful for cleaning up hair lying around your house.

The Dyson Pet Grooming Kit is not intended for intense de-shedding, does not include a clipper, and is best for dogs with medium to long hair. Ideal for quick, everyday brushing to prevent tangles and matting, this is also a nice option for travel or grooming on the go.

This attachment is meant to be gentle enough to be used as a cat vacuum brush, but we don’t recommend it. The biggest drawback of this dog vacuum attachment is noise level—Dyson vacuums are known to be quiet, but they can still be quite loud and startling for cats or nervous dogs.

  • Lightweight
  • Self-cleaning brush

Cons:

Pet Hair Grooming Vacuum FAQ

Wondering how to start using a dog vacuum with grooming attachments? We’ve got tips for teaching your dog to stay calm near the vacuum and advice for keeping yourself and your pooch safe while you groom.

Can you use a regular vacuum to groom your dog?

No, it’s not recommended. While they make attachments for regular vacuums like the Dyson grooming kit, most vacuums are too high-powered to safely groom your dog. We don’t recommend using the vast majority of household vacuums on your pet.

Why are dogs afraid of vacuums?

Noise! Dogs have far better hearing than humans, and the high-pitched whirring sound of a vacuum can be distressing and uncomfortable for your dog. Most dogs who are fearful of vacuums are reacting to the noise, though some may find the sensation of suction anxiety-provoking, too.

How do I teach my dog to get used to being groomed with a vacuum?

Go slow! Start by simply getting your dog used to the grooming vacuum. Try having it out and in the same room as them for a few days—you can even sit on the couch with the vacuum and your pup to show them it’s not dangerous.

The next step would be to start brushing your pup with the vacuum without turning it on. Slowly you can work your way up to turning the vacuum on without touching your dog, then while touching your dog, and so on. Patience and plenty of positive reinforcement will go a long way in helping your dog get comfortable.

Should I de-shed my dog wet or dry?

Your dog’s fur should be dry when using a de-shedding tool or any grooming vacuum attachments.
