After 1000 Days in the Shelter, This 3-Legged Dog’s Sweet Hugs Are Still Waiting for the Right Family
At the Austin Pets Alive (APA) in Texas, there’s a long list of adoptable dogs eagerly waiting to secure forever homes. While some of these dogs catch the eye of would-be adopters with their picture-perfect looks, others draw attention because of how different they look from the rest.
Among these unique-looking dogs is Magnum, a 4-year-old Australian Cattle Dog with only three legs. When Magnum arrived at APA nearly 2.5 years ago, one of his front legs was in terrible shape following an old untreated injury, leaving the shelter with no choice but to amputate him.
Despite adapting well to navigating life with three legs, Magnum hasn’t been lucky to find a forever home. It’s almost 1,000 days since he came to the shelter, and staff are confused as to why this absolute goofball hasn’t yet found his perfect match.
Arthritis Nightmare
The shelter is working on getting Magnum a prosthetic leg to aid his mobility. Unfortunately, he’s developed arthritis in his remaining front leg, making his day-to-day life a painful ride. Still, Magnum’s enthusiasm for life never goes unnoticed; he continues to be a source of great joy to those around him.
Magnum is currently receiving the care he needs for his arthritis, and the shelter hopes to find a forever family that will not only spoil him with a lifetime of love but also remain committed to managing his arthritis.
“Magnum is not your ordinary dog; he’s the epitome of resilience and an undying spirit. He’s been through so much yet remains loving, jovial, and hopeful. It just doesn’t make sense that he’s still without a home,” pet rescue advocate Rocky Kanaka says.
@savethedogs Prisoners at guantanamo had better conditions than these shelter dogs 😔 Magnum has been in this dirty cold box for almost 3 years (unreal).. This is from the volunteer at the shelter: “A home without any stairs would be easier on his joints, but he doesn't need a yard, just a good long walk or two every day! He loves people, gets exuberant when expressing his love. He gives the best hugs." HE GIVES THE BEST HUGS! And he dont even have all his legs to hug with🤯 Magnum had to have his leg amputated at the shelter and now his other leg is getting arthritis .. a warm bed and loving home can SLOW that arthritis down! We’ve raised $2k for him to get a prosthetic but it takes 1-2 months for it to arrive. If anybody in the Austin, TX area can rescue this HUGGER he already has donations to cover his adoption fee!! Magnum is located in Austin, TX at @Austin Pets Alive! ! Reach out to [email protected] Thank you @goodboygonehome for all the good you do for these shelter dogs! Please dont get upset at the shelter they are the only ones HELPING these dogs they just dont have the resources to provide a better environment and the system is designed this way. The poor people who volunteer and work there every day are DROWNING while the local elected officials dont care about any of these dogs! We need NATIONAL REFORM! #rescuedog #animallover #fyp #dogsoftiktok #shelterdogs #animalshelter ♬ take a moment to breathe. – normal the kid
Will You Be Magnum’s Forever Person?
Beyond his endearing personality and resilience, Magnum is a staff favorite for this one reason: he gives the best hugs, his disability notwithstanding. This tripawd beauty also amazes staff with his infectious zest for life as he is ever down for an adventure.
Magnum’s high energy levels make him the perfect companion for someone with an active lifestyle (provided you keep things non-strenuous for the sake of his arthritis). Magnum enjoys meeting new people and is big on extending affection to anyone who interacts with him. His ideal home is one with older kids and no other dogs, as he’d want nothing more than to be the centre of your world. Not to mention, he’s better off in a home with no stairs given the sensitive nature of his joints.
If you’d love to give sweet Magnum the loving forever home he’s waiting for all these months, kindly visit Austin Pets Alive’s website for details on his adoption.
