It is not normal for rescues to purchase puppies, but sometimes we see the need to do so. While transferring a dog into another rescue in the fair grounds parking area. We were approached by a blue pickup truck with a wire crate in the back. It was scorching hot…no cover and a black bedliner.
He asked if we were looking to buy some bulldogs. I just kind of stared in disbelief and my rescue friend asked if he was giving them away or selling them. His response was “”selling””. She said “”We don’t support breeders”” and walked away. My heart sank. As the truck drove away all I could see was a tiny face peering over the edge of the truck bed…tongue hanging out and crying. Appeared way too young to be away from mom as well.
We finished our business of transferring the dog that I had just caught at our local school…because I was totally full. When we were finished I got in the truck with my amazing friends and looked at her with tears in my eyes, and asked her if she had seem the baby peering out of the truck. They all said OMG yes. I said I can’t get it out of my head. And I said the only place I know that he would go from here, is the Walmart parking lot. I said let’s check and if he’s not there…its not meant to be.
At this point I have no clue what he’s asking per puppy or even how many are there. The moment we pull in, my heart sank. I could see him…all the way on the other side with a black umbrella over the crate. We drove over and talked to the man. Who was asking $200 each for the pups. We scrambled to see what we had on us. We had $325 dollars. My friend sticks his head out the window and says $400…I’m like NO. WE HAVE $325. I’ll take them all…then you don’t have to sit out here in the scorching heat and hope they sell. I’ll fix mom…and dad if you have them. Just please let me have them. There were 6.
I had no clue gender or colors…didn’t care. Just wanted to save them. After some negotiating we got the pups for $360. Got his number and loaded them up before he could change his mind. I ended up with 12 puppies this day. 6 I purchased and 6 that had been dumped. And again..I’m full! But made room and now we need hones for these adorable goobers! If you think your family can open their home and heart to a rescue baby who would have otherwise been sold to the first people with cash…but were intercepted by rescue…
We would love for them to be shown what being a part of a family can be. Not on a chain…thrown out in the yard when they act like puppies. Tear things up and pee on the floor. They deserve a chance, they all do! These pups were born approx June 8th 2022 and have been vaccinated.
