Violet came to the shelter as the dirtiest dog we’d ever seen. Years of grime caked into her coat from a life that asked everything of her and gave almost nothing back. She’d been microchipped and given the name “Olive,” but when we said it, she didn’t even flinch. Her records traced back to an owner who sold her on Facebook months earlier, and she was ultimately abandoned at the shelter.

Her body told the rest of the story: skinny and depleted, a rub sore on her back from being kept in a crate too small to stand up in, sore ears, and a cracked, dry nose. All signs point to the possibility of a girl who spent her life as a breeding mama, giving everything to her puppies with nothing left for herself.

But here’s the part that matters most. It took five full washes to rinse away the years of hardship, and through every minute of it, Violet leaned in. She rested her whole head in her groomer’s hand, relaxed, and nearly fell asleep. The staff warned us she was a “runner” who bolts for every open door, but she never tried to leave. She chose to trust. That tells you everything about who she really is.

Underneath all that dirt was a bright, beautiful, affectionate girl. American Bulldogs are smart, loyal, and wonderful with families and people, and Violet is all of that – a sweet, gentle “meatball” of a dog who’s finally ready to receive the love she’s always given.

The grooming was the easy part. The real job now is finding Violet a family – someone to treat her like family, not like something to be sold. It’s her turn to be loved. Could that be you?

Violet (PLEASE NOTE she is currently still named ‘Olive‘ on the shelter website) is waiting for his forever home at the San Jacinto shelter location for Riverside County Department of Animal Services. Her ID is #A1919601. ***Please contact RivCo’s San Jacinto shelter location for inquiries – it is best to walk into the shelter in person to inquire. Adoptions are first come, first serve. Pets must be visited with in person prior to an adoption. Rocky Kanaka is not responsible for adoption processes and interested parties must go through the shelter for more details on adopting.***
