  • Name: Second Chance Ranch Rescue and Sanctuary

Vala arrived at Second Chance Ranch Rescue and Sanctuary in July 2022, seeking refuge after enduring two harsh years confined to a shed and being subjected to gunfire. Just three days after her arrival, she underwent a profoundly traumatic birth, resulting in the survival of only six out of her 15 babies due to her precarious health during pregnancy. Collaborating closely with the vet, Vala and her offspring required numerous emergency visits during their initial two weeks in the rescue’s care.

Her state of malnutrition prompted her foster to provide extensive care, including hand-feeding and round-the-clock bottle-feeding for the newborns. Despite her fostering period since July 2022, Vala hasn’t received any adoption applications, despite her consistent presence at various adoption events and her tremendous popularity among fosters, volunteers, and veterinary staff. Her extended stay has limited the rescue’s capacity to assist other dogs in need.

Renowned affectionately as Potato Queen Mommy, Big Mom, and other endearing nicknames, Vala embodies a relaxed lifestyle, adoring nap times, seeking sunny spots, crafting pillow forts, and engaging in brief, energetic zoomie sessions. At around 11 years old, she aspires to a serene retirement, desiring a quiet environment and warmth by the fire.

Vala’s preferences include a pet-free household and a selective inclination for human companionship. Managing a receding hairline and skin condition, she requires a sensitive skin diet and occasional treatment. Vala’s whimsical persona and love for her adopted grandchildren highlight her unique character, yet her journey towards a permanent home continues, promising to fill a deserving space with her distinctive presence.
