UPDATE: Stella has been RESCUED by Haven Pet Center!
Stella is a 3 year old all black Labrador Retriever that came into the shelter less than 24 hours before being discovered by Rocky. She appears nervous and even a little intimidating at first glance, and although she appears happy on the outside, other signs point to her anxiously awaiting something to change. It turns out that her family turned her in due to a scuffle she had with the other dog in the home over food, and the family being concerned that this behavior would translate over to their small child at home, decided it would be best to turn her over to the shelter.
Thankfully, not only did Rocky bring Stella out of her shell rather quickly, but it’s also discovered that she can be okay with toys and food and people. However, for a new family looking to adopt Stella, it’s recommended that if there is another dog in the home that they are separated for feeding and caution with toys. It’s also discovered that Stella has an ear infection that the family was not aware of, possibly pointing to a reason for the sudden turn in behavior over food which hadn’t happened in the past up until that point.
Stella has a fun loving personality, and her previous family left behind as much information as they could to help Stella find a new loving home, such as the fact that she appears to be fine with cats, and that she even knows some commands/has been trained. Stella just needs a home either as an only dog, or a family that can separate their pups for feeding and monitor playtime with toys.
