Spuds is a long-legged lemon beagle/lab mix, five-and-a-half years old and 40-45 lbs. He’s got a stubbed tail; the shelter where we found him thought he had some Cocker Spaniel. He has developed some great friendships with some of our other rescued dogs. Spuds might be happiest if he were adopted with one of those companions.
Spuds is very selective of his people and he is not good with strangers. It is possible that he will bite, but with the right people for him, he’s a good boy. He can be friendly and he loves cuddles. Spuds mingles well with other dogs. He follows his people obediently and does well on a leash.
Here’s how he likes to learn to trust: Someone come very frequently and spend 15+ minutes with him – less in the beginning. Check in with him – go volunteer with another dog or other task – and then back to him. Repeat this often and until he is happy to see you. That is how he learned to LOVE us here.
We rescue a fair number of very shy, unsocialized dogs. They can heal if we, the people, don’t mess it up. Spuds will be a wonderful dog for a person and/or family with the patience and dedication to give him the second chance he deserves.
