Pumpkin was found within the Pechanga Reservation in Temecula. He was extremely fearful, so much so that Animal Control was contacted to rescue him. Once officer Servantes was on the scene and saw the situation, she was forced to use the catch pole, which can often cause more fear, but getting Pumpkin out of there was her main priority.
Once in the shelter, Pumpkin’s fear was so intense, that the shelter wasn’t able to immediately get him into a health check. He would defecate anytime someone gets near to him. With so much fear, it almost felt impossible to see him come around. But, with the help of Rocky, Pumpkin was able to calm down and relax for the first time since he’s been in the shelter. Rocky was also able to help find more information about him, such as sex, and the range of his age. But he’s still not out of the woods, as it will take more time for Pumpkin to truly become the happy dog he’s meant to be.
FLIP’S FARM DOGGIE PROFILE
**What we have learned from Pumpkin’s farm stay – important for potential adopters!**
- A reminder that Pumpkin is an active 2 year old Husky mix, meaning he needs a lot of daily exercise and enrichment, otherwise just like any other high energy dog, he has the potential to become destructive. However with proper exercise, he is very leveled out and a cuddler!
- Pumpkin LOVES other dogs, and would do great with a buddy! Super playful, and knows to be gentle with smaller dogs. We found he also does well with bigger dogs, as he currently trains with big dogs.
- Pumpkin does still have an innate fear of men, especially strangers that are male. It does not mean Pumpkin hates all men or cannot be around them! He just needs extra time and patience to get acclimated; he displays avoidant behavior with men but does not show any aggression towards them.
- He is VERY food driven! This would help with training and trust greatly; consistency is key with Pumpkin.
- We know that Pumpkin likes to chase rabbits and squirrels, however he is very receptive to training/commands, and will stop when told. His training has definitely shined in this area!
- By nature, Pumpkin is a timid dog, has some confidence issues that are still being worked on, and he is still a flight risk. However, with trusted people and dogs, he is extremely sweet, loyal and charming.
- Loves training, needs someone who will put in the time to work with him as he thrives with mental/physical stimulation.
- Pumpkin has the great potential to become an outgoing dog, this will take a lot of time and patience. With the right owner, the reward will be incredible, and you will have an amazing and intelligent companion.
